I remember there was a easy way of getting the ODI grips off the bars, and to slip the new ones on, but I cant remember what it was.

An allen key .... :whistling:

....

Or if they are not lock-on - use deodorant

I don't want to smell nice, I want to get the F........ grips off  :whistling:  :whistling:

Ah, but you may have reminded me, Windowlene....

If it's not the "lock on" variety where you only need to loosen the allen grub screw, the following might help.

If you have access to a compressor / compressed air, take the end cap of the grip, and force compressed air in between the grip and handlebar. That should break the seal and allow you to slide the grip off.

Problem with Windowlene is that it remains as a residue. Deodorant being alcohol based is best as it evaporates and the grips hold better to the bar after you put the new ones on.

I use it for my DJ bike grips.

And your bike smells nice

Boil water and put in a mug.Lye the bike on the ground with the grip  in the mug, once soft it comes off easy. Repeat for the other side.

Yep, deo or hairspray works best.

don't spray it on yourself, spray it in between the bar and grip. Force a thin screwdriver in, pull it away from the bar, spray it in, wiggle the grip and pull it off.

And then spray deo on yourself, as you'll probably still be working up a sweat.

I suppose if I had correctly said ESI grips rather than ODI, it may have made more sense....

Do you want to put the ESI's back on?

if not, use a stanley blade to cut lengthwise

re-application with aerosol deodorant, or compressed air. (Using the needle (oxymoron) attachment used to inflate soccer/basketballs really works nice.)

Dont use a screw driver, the chance of scoring the handle bar are good.

Quickest is to lift the end of the grip up away from the bar creating a small gap. Spit into this.

repeat around the end. Grab the grip and wiggle. The grip will loosen, pull sideways whilst wiggling it further till it pops off.

Dont use a blade, chance of scoring the handlebar below are good. Hidden damage is not good no matter what it is.

Use cable ties - about 3. Lift the end of the grip and push a cable tie in between the bar and the grip. Push it in as far as it will go. It will be small increments. Do it in 3 places evenly around the circumference. This will break the bond and allow you to twist them off. Will still require some elbow grease
