Schmorglebot Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Being a bit of a cycling n3rd in my spare time I've been reading up on lubing my chain with paraffin wax. The research seems pretty good, low friction, improves drivetrain life, stays clean, cheap. The only downsides I can see are the faff involved in actually doing it, and that you apparently get a marginally noisier chain. Anyone taken the plunge?

I just wanted to try get the opinion of my peers, where they sourced things like Molybdenum Disulfide and Teflon powder locally, their experiences etc etc

For a road bike i would say it's the best option as I found it got quite manky on a MTB after a few rides, which made me nervous ito drivetrain wear. The biggest mission is the initial chain clean, so I'd suggest you just try it on a brand new chain. Far easier.

I'd rather go ride my bike. Each to his own though. It's more about only having to clean your chain every 500km vs every 100km. So yeah, I'd rather go ride my bike (than have to clean my chain).

If there is a best practice out there I'm more than happy to put in the time required to do it. Surely you clean and lube this chain a couple times during this 5000km?
