sucramuk Posted April 18, 2019 Share Thanks for that, made my mind up for me then! You are only allowed to do the half with cx/gravel bike That bit between the last 2 waterpoints can be pretty *** with no suspension
TrailWarrior Posted April 18, 2019 Share Looks like the updated route is up on the website. If I am reading it correctly, looks like they dropped the 1st WP at the 36km or so mark and the 2 Rooiberg WP's marked as permanent. That's it!63km to your 1st water hole, then its pretty even out from there..... one WP at a time.....Getting excited!! 29 days!! hboli4

I know it is cooler so most people do not hydrate as much, but don't you think it is a bit of a stretch for the very back markers/if something goes wrong to go without water? I know, we must plan, but the cut-off time is 7 hours to that point so it has been anticipated that someone might take that long? Quite a stretch... WaldoZ Posted April 18, 2019 Share The WP at top of Rooiberg was a "popup" last year and now it is official. Wonder if they might just have a "popup" halfway to WP 1 then with just bare minimum (water) Normally the WP's the list is fully stocked... I'm just guessing but would make sense. WaldoZ Posted April 18, 2019 Share According to my file from last year these two are wrong:WP6-7 36 252.5 21hrs WP7-8 12 264.5 23hrs Should be distances 242km and 254km... 252 is half way up the mountain already and 264 is halfway down the other side All the others match though. Anyone else see this on their ride maybe? TrailWarrior and hboli4

hboli4 Posted April 23, 2019 Share Didn't they say that they want to bypass deyselsdorp this year? Yes they did, maybe just another route in/out? It was mentioned somewhere that they will be cutting out some tar sections.
TrailWarrior Posted April 23, 2019 Share Yes they did, maybe just another route in/out? It was mentioned somewhere that they will be cutting out some tar sections. .... I heard that too. Less tar they say, but nothing mentioned about the "hotspot" around Deyselsdorp...I guess one just has to wait and see...
TrailWarrior Posted April 23, 2019 Share I'm sure many that subscribed to the e-mail news letter received this from 36One - #TheUltimateRace is becoming a reality - ONLY ONE MONTH TO GO! Excitement is in the air and South Africa's ultimate single-stage mountain bike race is just around the corner. There has been a lot of rumours about the route, and we are excited to let the cat out of the bag. This year there are a few tweaks to the route, here they are:The cooler weather has prompted us to move Waterpoint 01 to Checkpoint 1, it was decided that this water point will be better utilised somewhere else during the 361 km's.Checkpoint 2 has moved from Thylitsia Guest House to Highgate Ostrich Farm. Highgate is a bigger property and it allows us to have the start of “The Half” in a safer location.Prompted by the demand we experienced over the last few years, we have created a fully-fledged water point on top of Rooiberg. After numerous requests for assistance on the climbs, Waterpoint 10 in Kruisrivier has now moved km's closer to 306 km'sTaking on this beast of a race you have to make sure you are mentally and physically prepared. ............. hboli4
hboli4 Posted April 23, 2019 Share The Race Rules pdf is a bit muddled, has some info/dates from 2018 in it. I still agree with Waldo regarding the distance markers for the 2 x Rooiberg WP's, they seem to be out by about 10km as the other points are all correct? Don't see anything about the compulsory medical we had to do last year or am I missing something?
