Hi guys.

I want to buy a bike in Germany but the shop doesn't want to ship full bikes to RSA.

Does anyone know of any means of getting said bike shipped to RSA?

Advice appreciated

Aramex Global shopper,

if you have an FNB account, subscription is free.

The place you buying ships to the Aramex Global shopper address in Germany then you do all the necessary payments, of duties etc. wait a week or so and the bike is in your hands

New bike. But I don't even want the entire bike, just want the frame, fork and wheels.

Does anyone know if I will then still have to pay german vat on top of rsa vat and customs? If so its probably cheaper to just fly there and buy it. ????

why will this be cheaper?

If you bring it back you still need to declare it with customs?

You still have to declare customs but you can claim back the German VAT you paid at the airport.

With Aramex you will pay German VAT (because the seller thinks he is selling to a German customer), SA Import duties (15% on a complete bike) and SA VAT (15%).  And a few other small fees etc...

However, bike components does not have SA Import duties, so if you can, only buy the components you want.

(I bought a bike from the UK - the seller deducted UK VAT (20%) and SA customs did not notice it was a full bike and they did not charge the import duties - I only paid the VAT.  When I queried the duties, they said: "Oh, did not see that, well it's your lucky day then."  I was out of there before they changed their mind  :whistling: ).

I was going to go down this road but decided that if I was going to become a criminal I might as well go all the way and so I stole a bike instead.

Btw, last business trip SARS searched every passanger of all planes arriving at CT airport. It was a damn hassle, 5 planes arrived at the same time, que was hundreds of people. They closed the red line, searched everyone. I was lucky to get my bags early. Still took an hour to get through.

Or, if you are aiming to avoid duties (or evade them, depending on what your view of these things is) ride your current bike to Germany (declaring all as you go) drop your current bike when you get there, and ride the new bike back as if it were your current bike. This Aramex stuff is for sissies.
