What a beautiful event, the marshals were on point even the WP were well stocked. Will be back next year to race. ASG can learn a thing or two.

the marshals were not on point. I nearly lost my life because a marshal was not on point today.

I'm sorry but this has all the hallmarks of an event that will be cancelled "Due to a lack of interest"

It is very difficult to start a event from scratch and you need proper promotion of the event if you want to start with a bang, think Tshwane Classic, they got the Metro to buy in.

Another way to start an event is to start "small" by partnering with the local cycling club and build it with them.

Let's hope we can get more big races settled around the Capital City

Amen!

Clarification maybe?

sure. Riding elites on Sunday. At the turn off from Nallmapius into ARC there was supposed to be a marshal in front of the yellow barricade. There was none. Some cyclists including myself who were deep in the middle of the Peleton collided with road furniture we weren't even aware was there. Judging from the damage to my helmet and glasses I could of been seriously injured, missing an eye or worse. Another rider last I heard fractured his hip because of this. Marshal was off standing under the roof of the guard house having a fat chat with their buddies or whatever. I stood up with bleeding from a cut to my eye, the marshals standing there in shock like gaping gold fish. I actually had to tell them where to stand so that other cyclists didn't get injured. Thank fully the VA's and VB's were made aware of the crash and they didn't have to endure the same fate.

Safe to say this won't end here for the race organizers and myself and I will not be entering this race in the future.

Hi Alastair. I think we had the same issue in the B batch, coming of Nelmapius towards the right hand turn a guy on a MTB literally turned square in front of me and went down. I think he went very hard on the brakes and was on the brakes way too late. After being rattled by this there was another crash on Botha under the bridge but this was just due to a touch of wheels.

Can I just say, this route was vrek fun. No problems with traffic, anywhere on the route. Traffic marshals did a great job (and still are doing). A bit cold at the start, but was warming up nicely by 8am.

Ill deffinatly support again next year.

I agree the route is fun.

Just a pity we were only 4 guys contributing to the chase in VA.

Bigger pity is that most VA "racers" are too scared of new things, being unfitter at races and the cold, in order for us to have a proper sized bunch.  :whistling:

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.  I have to admit that it was hell trying to find a nice group that stuck together (I started in C so it is somewhat understandable).  I also had some issues overtaking slower guys on some of the nastier hills, the traffic just did not allow for it.

One issue my wife had was that she could not get water at the first couple of water points.  She eventually got at the 72 (ish) water point when one of the people working at the table gave her his Valpre bottle.  This is nothing major and easily fixed but I think it is important to provide something other than juice or Powerade.

Enjoyed the race - more hills than expected. By the time A group got to that yellow barricade luckily the marshall was standing in front of it.

even when the marshal did start standing in front of it I had the impression that she wasn't sure of what she had to do. Edited by Alastair_S1D

Not real J. Just from the start I said I wont do it anymore because of the pre-ride I did. But yes it is correct about the VA's, more that the VA's don't race as hard anymore as they used to no matter if they unfit or not. In general the people that do know me will see that I race a lot less now a days but def working on to get back where I where always.

Seems like I was a bit wrong of the organizers of the event but there where a few situations that did occur. As most of the races you do find it but it could have still turned out ugly, that's really glad it did not.

It was an awesome event.  Tough few climbs with not many wheelsuckers being able to stick.

I felt more safe on this race that at many other Jhb based races.

So I guess it boils down to what motorist is pissed-off at what day drive who knows where.

Some mods and extra efforts from the organisers and this could be a huge success in future.

i.e. move it to August or start an hour later.  (Which will add to traffic issues) to avoid the cold start.
