Suikerbossie, the pisswillie little incline in Cape Town or Suikerbosrand, the Gauteng killer ?

The beastly little 57km loop to the south east of Joburg of course...

I get cold sweats just thinking about riding up the main hill there (and the start hill too)

That's how it is being marketed and all the talk to take out the Steyn City climb when riders are tired and hot. All the major climbing happens in 1st half when riders fresh. Lots of downhill to recover before big sprint at finish. Which will make the last few small climbs much easier. Not sure where actual finish will be but could be an extremely fast sprint, with potentially a big bunch.

My take on it is that the ad is a play on words saying that the route is reversed and not necessarily saying that the race as a whole is easier ie If you listen to the ad carefully it says what used to be hard is now easy - just a clever way of saying it is in reverse, they could also say what used to be easy is now hard!

Going to be cool!

Smash Suikerbossie a few times as training and you should be good to go for the first half

A few times .... eeerrrr right

A friend once convinced me to try do 3 laps of SBR. We did 3 attempts, only ever managed to do 2 laps in one go.

I rode it once, 1 lap, and thought I was going to puke. Couldn't understand it as my riding partner wasn't too concerned, and we're of similar fitness and we were Jock fit, and he went off for an extra small lap as I lay next to the car like a wet rag. That night flu hit and I was bed ridden for a week.

Moral - never go to SBR....the place is sick!

I was told if I could do two loops of SBR I would be ready for day 2 of Sani - did two loops - was not fun

Do the 94.7 in a sub 3, either old or new route, or sani2c day 2 is gonna be a long blood session.

Haven’t done Sani2C, so can’t comment, but a sub-3 947 is not that difficult (at least not for me).

going to be a fun day. Reverse route and double loop. Still think change is always good

Neither! Kidding, both are tough days out in my books but only makes the beer taste better at the end - particularly when it is on tap from the Notties beer truck at Joliviet!
