S-Works Power Saddle "exploded"

Your saddlebag's strapping clearly overstressed the rails, causing the nose insert to split apart.

User error - no warranty.

Hmmm

If a 300g saddlebag can overstress saddle rails, I would not bet my backside on such a saddle.

Thanks anyways. Really do appreciate the offer. Out of interest why aren't you using yours?

I use a slightly wider saddle with more padding . Fizik 180 wide

I think it might be more of a fact that a nice seat found a moonbag strapped to its back against it own wishes, and morals, and deciding that self detonation was the only honorable way out.

Kinda like waking up in the morning with your arm around a grot-otter. Rather bite off your arm and skedaddle than chancing waking her by pulling your arm out.

Warranty void - Bike was not equipped with SWAT box for required luggage.

Seriously though - was considering going to a carbon rail from Ti but now I am not so sure....

Don't follow cycling lore too literally. "Time in the saddle" actually means "Time ON the saddle". Sorry man, could not resist.

Yea but "Tits" sound a lot better than "Tots"

Ok so an Update on my "Exploding" saddle

Spez came back to me about 2 weeks ago with the follwing report.

I'm doing a summed up version of the 2 page report.

Warranty Declined

Reason Given: Upon inspection the damage to the nose end of the saddle shows no signs of crash damage, but some form of external impact is present, this will cause the product’s carbon reinforced shell to fail.

Warranty Decline Reason: Damage or failure due to accident, collision, crash, misuse, abuse, or neglect.

So I asked Spez the day after if they could explain the "external impact" as stated as I was sitting on the saddle when it broke.

2 weeks later no responce yet...

Seems like sitting on a saddle implies "external impact" and will void all warranty constituting misuse, abuse, or neglect as per their warranty policy.

To be honest, an "exploding saddle" would raise eyebrows at any manufacturers warranty department.

Sorry for double post. Just got the following responce

  • Hi XXX,
  •
  • I trust you are well.
  •
  • In laymen terms, if you drive through a pothole with a 17/18/19 " car wheel at speed, the chances are you will buckle, crack the rim.
  • This isn't due to the product being faulty, this is due to accident, collision, crash, misuse, abuse, or neglect as highlighted.
  • If  the riders full body weigh is seated and rides through a hole in the road, the chances are the saddle will indeed break.
  •
  • A saddle can only withstand so much external force as its designed to be a lightweight product, and after this it will fail as you can there is only so much material on the nose end of the saddle.
  • We are able to offer a better price on his saddle of choice moving forward, as accidents do happen.
  •
  • Kind Regards

Bolded the important part. Seem like normal use breaking a saddle voids warranty. Seems legit
