Hey all,

Posting this here in the hope that someone can assist.

I have a road bike with look Keo Max 2 pedals.

My Feet feel WAY too close to the crank, i have moved my cleats as close i can to the inside of my shoes (that in itself doesnt feel great) does anyone know where i can get these without importing them (as the shipping is more than the part) - for the below i am looking at like R750!!!!!

I have not purchased the addon for the pedals, as they gain 2mm only and i doubt that is enough.

any idea's (I am open to ghetto mods)

No ghetto mods on this one only proper jobs - the forces on these parts are immense.

Do you need that much extra space?

I ride Keo2Max pedals with size 49 shoes and found that the extra 2mm from the spacer washers was sufficient to get the clearance I needed.

I found the spacer washers really difficult to source locally - Mr Look was able to assist, PM him if you need.

Can't you just buy a set of 2nd hand shimano pedals and cleats for 750 buck and sell those for half that and buy your missus/mansus some flowers?

I tried a pair once (2012)

Bought it on the Hub from a fellow Hubber who also tried it with no success.

So I also sold it again.

The Q factor is just too wide, even if you move the cleats to the inside closest to the cranks again.

At the end I realised the problem was with the shoes (adjustability of cleat position)

changed to Specialized shoes (Road) and problem solved.

Rather go for Look "max" which add about 2mm to the pedal axle or different shoes.

Was the bike set up done by a professional, or are you just thinking it's too close because your shoes rub against the cranks?

No bike fitting done, i am basing this on the feeling of comfort.

@Mongoose i am running Look Keo Max 2, so i must just get those little spacers, but by the feel it is out by more than 2mm, i also have Spez road shoes, and have moved the cleats quite a bit, and can feel that my feet would prefer the cleats more to the middle of the shoe.

Maybe you should go for a proper bike fitting before you try fudging things to suit a perceived comfort.  The incorrect set-up by yourself could be the reason for this issue?

I have the same problem but on my left foot only. Do I put spacers on the left pedal only or that will create an imbalance?

You can use washers on Pedals to Crank.

About 3 or 4 MM should do it.

No doubt, and i will certainly take that into consideration, however i enjoy tinkering, and even sometimes fudging, i also think that perceived comfort is a pretty good indication of bio mechanical fit.

Your body, your aches and pains, your discomfort...... but will guarantee what you think your fit should be and what it actually should be.... am guessing based on info to hand... will be considerably different.

And technically, if you have a proper bike fit done, you wont need to tinker or fudge... just ride !!

What Shaper said.

And knee pain can be caused by a myriad of things, not just cleat position.

Sure, this is certainly understood, but this is kind of an obvious problem.

I should add if i chuck my MTB pedals (old long spindle XT's) on then the issue is gone

It is prossibly happening because of incorrect bike fit and probably down to your saddle being too low which causes the front of your foot to turn in (all cleats have float in them) as your knees move out during the pedal rotation (the movement is probably not noticeable)... hence the feeling of being too close to the crank.

Changing to the XT pedals which have a slightly longer spindle (although I doubt the Q factor is that much different), then you do not notice it too much... but the fact remains in all likelihood a poor bike set up which is forcing your shoes to twist inwards whilst pedaling.

But we all hazarding a guess based on limited info available.....
