Shortening Carbon Handle Bars

Bought myself a 760mm carbon handle bar. Up from my current 680mm bar.

How and with what can I safely shorten the bar to fit my preference?

Thanks in advance.

If I can give some unsolicited advice though, 760mm is not that wide - it may only feel like it because you are coming from such a narrow bar. Ride it like that for a few rides before cutting. You may find you like it, or maybe want to cut off less than you want to at the moment.

You use one of these... all bike shops will have one and will charge you a very small amount if any (I've never been charged by my lbs for it). It's not a tool many cyclists will have because it's something you are maybe going to use once or twice.

Don't use a saw.

Not so sure that a pipe cutter is the best thing to cut carbon with. I would use a hacksaw fitted with a carbon cutting blade and a saw guide.

I've never had an issue with it... but yeah, I guess a propper carbon cutting blade is probably better.

As I_wash_my_own_bike has said - leave it at the present length and ride it like that for a while you may find that you like it that way. You can cut them but you can't lengthen them. Try a shorter stem as well.

If you are going to cut with a saw blade please wear a dust mask - seriously.

Any reason why not to use a small grinder with a very thin blade? Cut about 3mm longer and sand it down to the perfect length? Just asking?

You will very likely end up with the ends splintering a bit. Also sounds like quite a bit of unneccessary pt.

THIS ^ avoid the pipecutter

ALSO wear A mask when sawing , carbon dust is very harmful when inhaled

Will wear out a normal blade super quick and the dust is seriously bad for you.

Diamond blade will work but you might fray the ends badly.

Dremel will work but very slow.

Leave the bar as is for now, shift the grips and mech inward while you are still testing them out at different lengths. Who knows you might end up enjoying 760mm.

Wrap handle with masking or sellotape and draw your cutting line on the tape, the tape will stop the carbon splintering.

Cut using a fine blade hacksaw. Use a cutting jig if you have one to get a straight and vertical cut

Do not use a pipe cutter with carbon, as you wind it tighter so that the rolling wheels cuts the carbon, it will also destroy the bar end.
