You can spend the R1000-R2000 bucks on a cartridge press fit bb like Wheelsmfg but  if the bb face is uneven you'll be buying a new one in a few months anyway. Attack the problem not the symptom

My GXP lasted three years before I replaced it out of precaution pre Cape pioneer. Preparing the bb shell before fitting is crucial

What is the best way to prepare the bb shell?  I have been told to try loctite?

Face the edges of the shell to remove the paint as it is often not evenly applied over the thin lip of the shell.

If Carbon I suggest you leave this up to the professionals. In fact leave it up to the professionals anyway.

Then if Aluminium shell, a healthy sliver of CopaSlip or clay (bentonite) based grease.

If carbon, then carbon prep or assembly paste or a carbon compatible grease with grit is best to ensure the bb doesn't move about in the shell and drive you and your riding mates nutts.

To elaborate a bit here - the Wheels MFG solution we are all advocating is the one where the two shells are threaded together to form a properly aligned & secure in the frame BB. No need to skim the shell or anything of that nature. Best decision I ever made to fit one.

Yes that's the unit I'm referring to. There is still play on the threads that will accommodate misalignment. The bb still has to be faced both sides irrespective of the type of bb.

afaik you're supposed to press the one side in and then thread the other side into that one

Yip that's how they're fitted. The Praxis unit uses a rubber oring on the press fit side to accommodate some misalignment between the bb faces.

Having fitted many of these I still find it best to face the bb if I want the threads to last more than one or two fitments. They're definitely the best type of bb for press fit frames

why do the threads need to last ?

Once the shell is in you just knock out the bearings and replace them the shell stays in the frame for basically ...ever

Also depends who fitted it? Incorrect installation will dramatically affect the life span of the part.

Dependant on the conditions of the use of the part as well.

And finally a big component to affecting the bearing, is how the bike is cleaned.

I am just assuming here, but making the statement that GXP PF doesn't last, one has to consider the above mentioned factors.

2000 km over three months is a lot of mileage and is far above the usual mileage of the average ride, you obviously and advanced rider which is a lot of usage on the part as well.

I would do a "post mortem" on those failed bottom bracket bearings.

You will probably find that there is no grease inside.

There is no such thing as a perfectly "sealed bearing".

The first signs of lubricant starvation are squeaking and or rough operation.

Funny story

Bought A bike in feb , had A gxp pressfit BB

Bought this in march ( as I expected the pressfit bb to bite the dust soon ) ....fast forward to July and the pressfit BB is still going strong and the wheels one sits in my parts drawer waiting for its day

I got pics if you want proof  :D

Because carbon and aluminium make a stunning battery no matter how much carbon paste or clay grease you use. Have to clean out that corrosion at least once every 6months
