Velouria Posted August 6, 2018 Share How about sum old photos of TB from years ago.2008 (my 5th Baviaans) Team Name: Soggy Bottom Boys - a wet year. And Camelbaks were still cool. A Dual Sus 26er 2009 - Team Name: Rusty TarTrollips (paying homage to our roadie background). Camelbaks still in fashion! And my upside down fork was cool way before the RS1 2010 - Team Name: Little John and his Merry Men (John was on a little 26er, our first time on 29ers). Our first time making Konodomo in the daylight! Our first top 10 (7th) in 9h25 2011 - LangsBaviaans. Team Name: The Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies 2012 - Team Name: The Walla Walla Weasel Whackers. Made the last checkpoint in the light 2013 - (Number 10) Team Name: The Night Time Ninjas. Captain Craig broke a frame before checkpoint 2 2014 - Team Name: The Pink Fluffy Monsters. The long water stretch after checkpoint 3 2015 - Team Name: The Quixotic Hill Engines (google it). Had a complete disaster. Finished in 10h31. 2016 - Team Name: The Chernobyl Brick Layers. Lauf forks and hard tails! And very bad puncture repair skills! 2017 - Team Name: The Cowardly Penguins. The biggest bonk in the history of Baviaans (not me for a change!). Velouria Posted August 6, 2018 Share early days of gravel bikes? are there any gravel grinders entered this year?Yoh - it's going to take a brave soul to enter Baviaans on a gravel bike. There are several areas where a gravel bike is going to fly, and several areas where I'd want to chuck that bike into the bushes!!

My wife did backup for the team though while I moped at home! I thiiiink it was 2008... fandacious was also in the team. I just remember the team started at an absolutely ridiculous pace. The first rider dropped off the squad on the first climb out of town within the first 2km. I was quietly glad my frontwheel started breaking spokes (3) giving me a valid excuse to drop off the train. Good times. Edit : 2008 it was. LongDonkey Posted August 7, 2018 Share Keen to try TB again next year. But a question for a friend (really). He got a "wildcard" entry to the Ironman world champs in 3 weeks and is worried he will hurt himself on the TB and result in him finishing stone last for the Ironman. I don't think he is the fastest chap in triathlons so he is understandably worried.Question : Will TB be a good training ride, or will the recovery time needed hurt his energy stores and legs and result in a slower time for Ironman? IMHO he needs the training ride and the recovery for 5 or 6 days can be taken up by swimming and running short distances.

But I'm known for skimping on rest. In 2010 I did full distance IM, and then the weekend later a 76km trail run. Or the other way around, can't remember, but it was back to back weekends. And I didn't die or have bad legs. LongDonkey

I think it was Chris (CVanV on the Hub) - third from the right - that got dropped early that year!
