Well, I have 3 kids under age 10. They've recently picked up on the middle-finger thing from other kids, and it took a couple of slaps against the head to get them to stop running around zapping each other and other people. They often page through my bike magazines, so the last thing I want now is for them to see how cool it is when cyclists do it.

I also wouldn't enjoy turning a page in a bike mag and there's a guy saying "well hello, f*ck you"

Might not specifically be marketed as a "family" bike magazine, but barring a warning on the cover that states not for under a certain age, surely he has a point?

I was just wondering as it seems to be the trend for prin tmagazines to try to be come more 'real' and 'relevant', in a world that is becoming dominated by blogs and online sites, by adding a little more shock value. I don't read that mag so that was why I was asking.

You as parent are not teaching them to use it in the correct context then

is one picture of a guy pulling a zap sign - amongst a double spread of 10 other pics of people not really "shock value"?

Maybe they are attempting to immitate being a "bogan"?

That 'bogan' article was the most try hard, self promotion and personal brand pushing that I've seen in a long time. Not withstanding they totally missed what a bogan is and what bogan is in popular culture.

Well it seems to have shocked a few people in this thread.

should terms like  "bike porn" be banned as well - have the magazines sealed in plastic like the good old days.
