Hi

I am about to start my new bike build. I have selected the new Venge S-Works as I already have the Vias Disc (not S-Works) and although a bit heavy I think is a great bike.

The standard S-Works with Dura Ace 9170 Di2 and Roval CLX64 Wheels is claimed to be 7.1kg in a size 56 which is significantly lighter than the previous bike.

I have decided to take the weight loss a step further with my build in two main areas - I have decided to go for the CLX50 which are around 170g lighter and dont give away much on the aero compared to the 64’s and instead of the S-Works crankset I have got the THM Clavical SE which is around 100g lighter. I have also got a Berk saddle which at 95g is 60g lighter than the S-Works Power.

Their seems to be a delay on the CLX50 wheels so I will be building the bike using my DT Swiss ERC1400 wheels which I run tubeless with Schwalbe Pro One Evo 28mm tyres

I will be using the DA 9170 Groupset with just the calipers being Ultegra 8070.

I think a red one would be faster

If you want to save weight and money is of no concern (you are running a THM crankset after all) why not go for a set of Lightweight wheels? They make a disk version now. Would think these to be significantly lighter than the Roval's you want.

IMHO, going with a shallower depth carbon rim (with otherwise identical wheels) should only be for better handling in windy conditions (I.e. no 64mm in the Cape).

I doubt the weight difference is really that big between a 64mm and 50mm rim. Even if so, the reduction in aerodynamic drag is always worth the slight extra weight.

Also, surely having a more comfortable saddle is more important than saving a few grams?!

I did actually have a look at them. They are not much lighter 1350 vs 1415 cost more than twice as much and their Aero design is not up to scratch from the reviews that I read

You can save a lot of weight on the brake calipers.

Where did you buy the THM crankset?

There is around 25g difference between the DA and Ultegra and I already had them. I got the crank from Design in Motion in Sandton

I am from Durban and wind is an issue so was a consideration. The weight diff is 170g which is quite a bit and the Areo tests that I have seen comparing the CLX50 and 64 do not show that there is a significant difference. I will try the seat and see how I go.

If you slam that stem, like its meant to be, you will save some more.

Also, looks like the frame is the wrong size as the stem is not 140mm....

Smaller frame would be lighter as well...

Loved my Venge, just Spez's road bikes are converging really quickly now. With the disc versions even more so.

The new Tarmac is more aero than the previous Venge.

This will probably by the last Venge/Tarmac we see as the Tarmac is almost as stiff and almost as aero and the Venge is almost as light.

They could call it the Tarenge? Venmac?

Spot on the future will have light areo stiff bikes. I will be first in line to get a Terenge
