Oh, the stresses of n+1

But what if you're about to go for a ride and your wheel is flat and your pump is in an inconvenient place?

Or your friend comes to visit and forgot his bike? (Which is why new (sorry, backup) shoes are a must

And how can you possibly torture your dual sus on gravel?

Then what if your mate arrives, wants to ride on the road?

I have a few bikes, not because I like having them but because I don't want to be selfish

You are missing a road bike, a TT bike, a bike specifically for the indoor trainer, a fat bike and a single speed... Once you have those I am sure the hub will be able to come up with additional +1's.

I have a road bike, which I convert to TT for Ironman. It is also almost permanently on the indoor trainer. So those bases are covered. I had a single speed but it was ported back to a geared bike with a babyseat on. I do not have a fatbike, no. So I guess there is room for a +1, even though my bikeroom does not have room for a +1.

I have near 40 square meters storage space for bicycles.

All I have in there is

  1. 1x MTB,
  2. 1x Road Bike,
  3. 1x Monster Cross (used to be a single speed),
  4. 1x Raleigh road bike without handlebar.

In a store room at the back of the yard there is

  1. an abandoned time trial bike (sans wheels),
  2. a forgotten road single speed.
  3. A (now too small) 24" MTB for my son

Stresses of n+1? No stress at all.... although a dual suss 29er will be ideal for the winter gravel roads!

That's nice real estate!

My bike/computer room/mancave is about 5 meters by 4 meters. In there is about 7 bikes, including a tandem, hanging on the wall. On the other wall is my computer table and PC's etc. Room is a bit toit.

I had the a very bad case of N +1. Not everyone understands it. Went back to just 1. A rigid monstercross......

Stop swearing! No such thing as "very bad case" of N+1. You just run out of storage space.

While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1 , where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1 , where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

OK... I've learned something. I thought "s" was for Specialized.

... and the commuter is at work .... :whistling:

Kinda like my garage. 8 bikes, 2 sets of wheels, 2 forks, 1 frame and a smashed up Tarmac frame.

OK... Granted, 3 of the bikes are outgrown kids bikes.

I need to do some selling.
