If you spend that kinda money to keep your bike moving, you are doing something wrong.

Buy cheaper tyres and learn to clean and maintain your own bike(s).

I think the medical bills you end up avoiding in the long term, by being a fit and obsessed cyclist, are in a few different orders to the numbers listed here. Even with the occasional orthos disaster... Fitness hobbies is still an investment like few other.

One ICU admission for a "light heart attack" can run you in to the 1M plus category (UBER ROUGH GUESTIMATE). Not to mention the follow up/ meds and being stuck with that ticker forever.

Buy some tools and do it yourself :whistling: Will be cheaper in the long run.

The smile on your face riding your 29er - PRICELESS.

We don't do it because it is cheap plus your data is skewed by the low maintenance cost you chose to use in your comparison for the motor vehicles. Plus being nailed by the bike shop for the maintenance costs.

plus buying a new drivetrain every year. But for some, that is a reality.

Also - change the title to "BICYCLE" - the "29er" bit is rubbish. All FS bikes have these sorts of maintenance costs.

ja kyk, if you use a Land Rover instead of Toyota / VW in the calcs, the data will look slightly different... :whistling:

Shouldn't you be adding the fuel cost per km for the vehicles too?

Edit: Fixed font size

No wonder Morewood went out of business

My 2010/2011 Zula still has all its original bits, except for 2 chain replacements and 1 cassette (which was changed for gearing purposes and not due to wear).

Edit: add one handlebar which was cut short and replaced with a spare

Agreed.  This only compares the service costs, not the actual running costs...

For ultimate accuracy, you then also need to add the cost of the food to fuel your rides to the bicycle calculations...
