Ozzie NL Posted October 23, 2018 Share Received a mail from organisers on Oct 5th that they are expecting 10k+ participants which seems wildly overstated. Does anyone know the real number?
Dirkitech Posted October 23, 2018 Share There was some discussion on it a while back. The following link is the latest post I recall:https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/167756-tshwane-classic/?p=3384761It does indeed sound like they may be lying about the advertised entries, maybe they are counting facebook "interested" clicks. Craai Posted October 23, 2018 Share 2939 when I checked this morning.Maybe they're counting the kiddies event, the mommies that brought the kiddies, the car guards and the ice cream men in the 6500 as well
Ozzie NL Posted October 23, 2018 Share Why do organisers feel the need to overstate the entry numbers? ASG has been doing the same for quite some time. We all find out when we have been to an event that they are inflating the numbers so what's in it for them?

PingPong Posted October 23, 2018 Share I sent them a mail yesterday asking when will the seeding and start times be released, they said only after online entries close. Registration starts next week Wednesday. They sure are stretching the closing date to probably reach that magical 10k number. Also asked them again about the Trek bike offered as a prize for entering before June, they just ignored that question. Marketing...
Rolling Stone Posted October 24, 2018 Share If that overstating of numbers is true, I am a very disappointed customer.I entered my son purely based on the numbers in the hope that he might have a good race and that there would be enough competition.Lets hope all the faster kids, their mommies and the ice-cream man will at least be there. Frosty Posted October 24, 2018 Share Up to 3632 this morning, so the usual last minute rush before entries close. They have 20Km, 500m, 5Km, 60Km and 98Km events. For Rolling Stone, less than 20 in your son's category.

PingPong Posted October 24, 2018 Share Let's hope it grows in the years to come. It's only the second year now. Problem may be the amount of events this time of year. Last weekend was Ama Shova this weekend is Macsteel then Tshwane and then 94.7. So you have to choose carefully unless you print money in your garage Vetplant, Andrew Steer, Dirkitech and 1 other

But as pointed out above, there are some real experts out there at blowing large volumes of hot air out of their rears

But as pointed out above, there are some real experts out there at blowing large volumes of hot air out of their rears Sponsorship point it a fair one but sponsors are not daft. It is not exactly hard to find out what the real numbers were after the event and cannot imagine them being very pleased about getting 1/3 of the coverage they signed up for. And then finding out the organisers knew this all along!!! I would feel cheated. Guaranteed recipe of making sure you'll need a new sponsor next year
