Is there a way to race higher than your batch eligibility

Hi all, so been off the bike for a long, long time. Last time I actually did a race and gave it all was the Jock tour in 2017. Since then various things, laziness being foremost has kept me off the bike, but I've finally started training again and will be putting in a proper training block over Dec.

I noticed that my seeding has dropped down to E. Is there a way you can get this bumped to A/B by chatting to the race organizers? Based on how my training has been going I'm not far off my previous numbers and expect to be thereabouts next year again.

Thanks

Best bet would be to see if there are any PPA hillclimb or hope the whole strava tracking thing works

Thanks but AFAIK there aren't HC events in Gauteng, also stopped using strava a while ago, on to Golden Cheetah now.

Thanks though

Not aware of Strava tracking being used for seedings.

Please elaborate

There is a quick way, but it could hurt... buy a licence, and ride Elite/Vets (not sure if you're old enough yet for Vets.

If not, then buy a licence and choose the group to ride open - can't believe I'm encouraging this... but others do it, so it's sometimes seen as acceptable, when it's not.

While some people might understand what you're asking, this shouldn't be encouraged. If an organiser does a favour for one, they have to do it for all - that's why there is a seeding system... to place people of similar ability in the same group.

Best legitimate way would be to bide your time, early in the new year, and jump from group to group. Pick some of the smaller races where the open groups are smaller, and it you can hang in with the group, you'll get there quicker than just riding the bigger races.

When I was looking into getting a vet license, you needed a seeing index less than 20. Is that not still the case?

Come ride BSSS on 10 Nov at Rooiwal, finish with the front of Open Seeded group and your seeding will see a significant official upgrade because it is relatively flat and you finish close to the time of the elites. RACETEC timing, so will automatically update your seeding.

Seeding applies when the groups reach the limit.

dude... the rules are that you need to race to get a good seed and we all know that...  if you took an 18 month racing holiday, you surely knew the consequences.   and IMO i don't think its fair to hassle the organizers for some "special treatment" 3 weeks before the race, i'm sure they have more important things to worry about at this point in time.

Also, there will be some strong guys in E, so you'll have ample riding buddies out there that will be stronger than you to pull off a good ride and finish time.

Just because you are 'thereabout' as to your previous fitness, what about the other people (those you rode with and those behind you) - they may be alot stronger now and your previous levels may now be suitable for this lower seeding currently reflected.

Best way is to race and improve based on your results

Or, and this is open to anyone with a valid case, use the published re-seeding process, provide them with the fee and evidence and if it is justified you will be moved up.

No need to "chat up the organisers" just follow the rules.
