So, if you don't do the yearly license and just buy the day license, you should be fine, I assume?

Then you are technically only "licensed" for that one day or event, and it cannot possibly clash with the unlicensed (and often better, more fun) events?

Rule 1.2.019 says you may not participate in "an event" that isn't on a calendar or isn't recognized by a federation.

I suppose that means no parties, no charity dinners, and no company team building...

Rule 1.2.019 also says exemptions may be granted for an event whose format isn't covered by UCI regulations.

So I suppose all you have to do is change the rules of the event so that they aren't UCI legal.

afaik it's only people with racing licenses that get these fines

Not upset...ask away

If you are a licensed rider and you ride a non CSA sanctioned event you get lashed in the principals office

I haven't seen this pointed out before, maybe you know or someone else can share- is there differentiation made between csa licensed members and csa licensed racers when it comes to non sanctioned events?

As there seem to be some newbies here, the license is as follows:

Racing license: Allow to ride in Elite/Vets category. This is membership + a racing license. Costs about R800 per annum.

CSA Membership: the annual amount of around R350.

Day license: R35 for people that don’t have CSA membership.

It’s only racing licensed holder that can’t ride the non-sanctioned events. The CSA Membership holder and day license holder that are okay.

Looks like this could be unconstitutional.

Cycling South Africa is a charity as well. Also rules has to be followed. Race must be sanctioned by CSA.

Thanks, I keep forgetting this part. VA is way too fast for me anyway, so don't care about the racing license.

The issue is if you are licenced you cannot ride non CSA sanctioned events. Simple. Stupid, but simple.

However here is a stupid question. Can one become unlicensed from CSA in a year? In other words be licenced for a part of the year for the events you want to race and when you are done forfit your licence?

Then you can do all the year end funrides as you are not licenced.

Surely it is my right to disaffiliate from a union if I want to, like after SA's or Worlds etc.

You cannot partake in events not sanctioned by a national body.  It says nothing about "ride."

You cannot partake in any event unless it's sanctioned by a sporting body.  I assume that's in there in case you want to do cycling, running and triathlon events.

It's "any event", not "any cycling event."  Which is just plain nuts.  It does fall under the section of "racing", so I assume it's anything that can declare a podium.

You can definitely retire at any time, so I assume you can discontinue your license for other reasons too.  You'd have to let them know.  Possibly in writing.

Ah, the death of common sense.

I dont know much about the whole thing, but I can say I have NEVER read a single positive thing about CSA.

Seems pretty stupid.
