Reverb vs. Lyne / Rapide

Opinions.... new bike came with a Reverb dropper fitted, 31.6mm stealth with 150mm drop. While there is nothing wrong with the post, I'm thinking long term serviceability, cost of ownership etc. Do I sell the Reverb now while it's still pretty new and buy a Lyne or Rapide seatpost?

  • Reverb is hydraulic, very fiddly to service, especially DIY, expensive to send in.
  • Reverb Service kit is apparently in the region of R600-700?
  • Lyne service kit R199, new cartridges available if they do give hassles (could get re-gassed)
  • Lyne / Rapide smaller remotes, with cable easily replaced, and less vulnerable then my current Reverb above bar unit.
  • New post would have a 2 year warranty!

What your thoughts?

Get rid of the Reverb. Sell it now and use the moolah to buy either of the Lyne or Rapide dropper, and you will spare yourself a lot of future stress.

I agree. Having had 2 Reverbs previously and now using Lyne, I would not go back.

I sold a bike with a Reverb to a friend of mine and he then sold it to someone else. I spoke to the new owner and he said he got a quote of R5500 to repair the Reverb. I only paid around R3k for it in 2012.

Or no dropper at all

I agree. Even if you sell it for the price of a Lyne you'll still save yourself maintenance cost in the long run. How Sram hasn't made a budget version of the reverb by now is beyond me. Surely they must have lost a significant share of the dropper market already.

That must be one of the worst pieces of advice ever dished out on the Hub. The man lives in Cape Town. We have mountains down here and some steep descents.  Shame on you :-)

Reverb is costly piece of kit. Not talking about initial price.

I bought mine before the boom of affordable options and its good piece of kit, but I would buy a different one now.

I think the newer version reverbs are much better and reliable . I have 3 on different bikes and no problems . Also have a Lynne that works fine , but think reverb still superior in build quality and action .

Less play in post , seems sturdier . Also return speed tunable . Don't get me wrong i like my Lyne post , but i wouldn't change a reverb on a new bike upfront if it was mine.

Got a reverb brand new in box, contemplated for while selling and getting the Lyne.

Ended up using the reverb and few months later it has been faultless and really feels great. Fingers crossed

One (well me and ppl i have spoken to) won't notice the play unless you're specifically looking for it :P

But if you were building a bike from scratch...would you pay double (or more) for a Reverb over a Lyne... No chance on this earth.
