CWC, what have you done?

So, I've been a CWC supporter for many years, partly because the shop is next to my office and partly for their good prices and generally easy shopping experience both online and in the store.

But today, things changed.

Went in to the store to buy a BB, some bum cream and bombs. With bum cream and bombs in hand, I ask the lady at the counter for the BB to which she replies "sorry Sir, you have to go to the online department to get that."

What the ?

She said they were separate...not sure what that means. I thought it was a bike shop, where I could buy bike stuff in one place. I know it's not a big deal, but it doesn't make sense either. That's not making life easy for the customer.

edit: p.s. I walked out empty-handed out of principle.

First I hear of that ... things are certainly changing if that is the case, and as you say, not for the better.

I've been in many times where one of the sales guys just ran to the back to get what was needed. (from the online stock)

Yes, that's what usually happened with me too.

Apparently not anymore.

It happened to me too last weekend, but I did not take much notice of it at the time...

I bought a few things online and there to collect and pay.

I also grabbed a few extra goodies off the floor.

I had to pay at the back where online orders are collected and then pay at the front for the other goods.

I didn't really mind, as I don't mind loitering at CWC

but it's a fair point you made and should be easy to resolve.

I happen to work at Willowbridge, it was super convenient to walk into the store purchase the stuff I wanted and be done. However couple of days leading up to Black Friday I decided to upgrade to SRAM Eagle, CWC showed the items on their website, I went into the store to purchase, only to be told they don't have stock. Salesman wanted me to pay to seal the deal and lock in pricing......(yeah whatever mate, not falling for those tricks.)

Instead he wrote my number into a little black book. He was going to call me when stock arrives, couple of days later I go back (Cyber Monday) That salesman was now on leave, but get this.....they don't share the black book with other sales people in the same store. Left my details again with a different sales person, waited 3 days. Then gave up, instead I drove down the N7 +- 40KM got everything I needed. (they also did not have the X01 cassette in stock but offered to make a plan for me.....BTW I was willing to wait for the cassette I did not need instant gratification, I'm way to old for that. Also did not want the bling of the gold XX1 stuff which they had in stock. The saleman gave me the option to take a cassette from one of their new bikes which was on the floor. I replied I'm fitting this stuff in the next day I don't care about boxes etc etc. Left the shop after spending R15K happy.

CWC +- 5 mins walk away. Instead I went for a drive, came back via the Durbanville Silos. Saw some routes that I want to do on the MTB.

How many times must I say it people.....  EVOBIKES

Also support Evobikes, but it's a bit of a long walk from the office in Willowbridge! :-)

The annoying thing was that I didn't order online. I just wanted to buy a bunch of stuff all together. If I had ordered online, collected, then bought something else, I would've had no problem paying twice (although the first time would've been online anyway).

But to be told I had to pay at the till for the bum cream and go to the online section for the BB is just plain ridiculous.

You should've told the lady, if you don't get the BB you'll apply the bum cream there on the shop floor.

i've found them to be very expensive.

that said bikemob is usually very expensive to - but on black Friday they were miles cheaper on than anyone else on a 2018 kickr and wahoo climb. go figure

Although I categorically stated i will not use CWC, after doing a comparison between CWC and CRC I found the items I needed locally at the price on par and slightly cheaper than CRC.

Given the issues with Skynet, I opted to buy local.

Ordered friday, paid seleted the R100 shipping option, and I am still waiting.

Placed a second order for tyres on saturday, and this is still in transit.

Tracking shows that the items only landed in JHB today, which means I will hopefully get it tomorrow. (we are only at work till 12 tomorrow...which I suspect will cause more woes for me receiving my parts....

So, can I say this will be the last time.

I did compare Evobike's prices, and CWC was still cheaper, and had the stuff I needed.

is it CWC's fault? probably not, more dawn wing. but the whole experience left a bitter taste...

The longest a CRC order has taken, was 4 days (including weekend)

Rapide, received my order on saturday morning, somehow had the wheels build up, to be delivered mid day tuesday...

looks like the accountants have taken over.....

Can we please go back to blaming Cycle Lab and leave the innocent alone. No accountant would suggest this, not at least anyone with any business sense.

Because their sram stock is not, ummmm direct, they tend to presale the stock, use the customers money to bring the stock in and then offload to the customer.

CWC - winners, nice on cash flow

Customer - winner, as the stock tends to be cheaper

Customer - loser, must wait for stock

Your choice what is more important, but CWC always walks away with a win
