Hi all,

My apologies if this has been posted elsewhere and I've missed it.

My partner and I are arriving in Cape Town the week prior to the race, and are looking for recommendations for clean/safe places to stay.

We've considered spending part of that week in Stellenbosch as well, so are wondering about recommendations for that area, too.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice!

As Duane said, Hout Bay. You will have easy access to Chappies, Ou Wa Pad, the Kirstenbosch trail and the prologue route.

I'm not from Cape Town, but when I was there for the Argus in 2012, I stayed in Camps Bay - it was pretty rad.

In 2014, I didn't ride Argus, but went for the vibe, and stayed at the Protea Hotel Breakwater Lodge near the Waterfront. Very clean and safe.

Which race?

Stay in my Airbnb. It's got everything and is in the stunning little village of Hout Bay. It's a 40 minute drive to Stellenbosch and super close to town and all the other tourist spots.

Amazing - thanks guys!

Any thoughts on car rentals vs taking public transport with luggage + bikes (in boxes) during our trip to and from Stellenbosch? We'll be staying there for a couple of days prior to the race.

There's not a lot of decent public transport in Cape Town other than the MyCiti buses but they're limited predominantly to the CBD & Atlantic seaboard side.

Your options to get around will be Uber or hiring a car.

If you're planning on staying in Stellenbosch area then definitely go the car hire route so that you can get out and explore the beauty of the Winelands.

Thanks, NC. Appreciate the insight, and will go with the car hire.

Cheers!

I like to stay as close to the action as possible when I travel.

So, I would recommend something in the City bowl, Waterfront or Green Point area. That way you will have the iconic view of Table Mountain all the time. Also, it is the most central and you can walk or hop on the MyCity or Red tour buses to visit further away attractions like Kirstenbosch, Cable Car and Clifton beach. You can also easily arrange for pick-ups to Cape Point etc.

I agree that renting a car is necessary for the Stellenbosch part.

If you decide on Hout Bay, which is the best place for riding your bike from, then rent a car for that part as well. The ride from Hout Bay along the Atlantic coast is one of the top bike rides on earth (not kidding)!
