Bonus, I had a slightly different experience with the check in with Lufthansa now in August on our flight to Joburg.  Because our flight from Munich to Frankfurt was in actual fact a high speed train, we had to check in online 24 hours prior and print our boarding passes as that is our train ticket as well.  So fo the return flight I wanted to have specific seats and when you check online, there was still many options available.  So I had not had the problem that our family was split up and we could sort out our seats without paying extra.

What I can say is that the seats on the Lufthansa 747-8 is not much to write home about.  Man it was small.  Our return flight was on Swiss (which is also part of the Lufthansa Group) and it is chalk and cheese I am telling you.  The old A340 were newly refurbished two years ago and that cabin and seats is 10x better than the 747.

As it turned out, the Munich-Charlotte flight was great. The seats reclined enough, the galley area was quiet enough and "Wendy" had an empty seat next to her. The food was good and the staff friendly.

The only issue we had at all, nothing to do with the airline, was turbulence! The flight was fine until about an hour north of Charoltte (west of Boston) where we hit some bumps. Previously we'd been way up above the coluds and it was pretty smooth, suddenly we were skimming over the tops of the clouds, at 40 000ft nogal, and it was scarey rough. The life saver for me - who hates and turbulence with a passion - was the cameras. The Tail-Cam for instance allowed us to see that actually the plane was fine and nothing untoward was going on. Without that outside view I'd have been getting a bit panicky 😮

I actually don't mind sitting close to the galley on the long haul.  Since I can't sleep in anyway I move to the back often and streth the legs there when the crew is not busy serving the passangers and they are actually taking it ease.  On my return flight now on Swiss, I was standing at the back when a lady another lady was also standing there that could not sleep.  We ended up chatting with the crew while they made us coffee 3 o'clock in the morning.

I have VERY bad flashbacks about being a passenger in an Alouette with a pilot trying to mow the African savanna into a lawn. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the acasia trees were all so very flat topped? (But NOBODY saw us on their radar.)😜 Those Mils were not very friendly either.

Been a long time away from this forum. I have had a quiet period based in Dubai with little flying and though very grateful for a job in these trying times…….it has been a struggle being away from home for extended periods of little flying while remaining on standby to fly. So much to do at home and a life to enjoy with the Missus and I feel time passing me by holed up in a hotel in Dubai. Anyways, tis a good job overall though much to ponder in months coming.
So, here we are into Kuwait from Dubai a short while ago, crap viz but of course all part of it!.DDA5422F-374A-48E2-8CEE-144E7829FDBB.jpeg.c845ea59326b95fe9891236b84985b1a.jpegF42E232B-010B-43AC-BE41-D2BC5C5B1E3E.jpeg.1f323807601dd2b6e4348aaafe331f52.jpeg

I have been off duty in SA but needed to return to Kuwait for a 6 day trip just to fly as Augmenting crew from Kuwait to Miami. 14 hr 55 min flight time meant the third pilot was required. I left George last Tuesday 8th arrived Kuwait 9th, we took off 0330 local 10th out of Kuwait , landed Miami on 10th and positioned home 11th via Atlanta and Josie. Arrived George 13th………all for the one 15 hour sector. Anyways, some pics of arriving in Miami, from the jump seat. Normally when we stay we locate in the Marriott near the tall buildings left of the city pic…..Brickel it is, very lekker!F86348B3-154D-48BB-8587-0E85B4BE9B54.jpeg.1eda8ad5e23e8a932e565bc4ae338681.jpeg76B14E94-24D9-4933-9F31-FF47B315502C.jpeg.abe5573e50c5fb12e2b6db40f2f4fa7f.jpeg19B038C8-19D6-4877-B51B-2B7A356B5D50.jpeg.f6ce6b11c245a50361e861be7f749f7a.jpegE7889518-8D32-47E7-9658-709549AE65EE.jpeg.05af0aeca61964331581c1305c6fdbed.jpegDE5A7049-7462-406A-AEA2-2F45814B1FC3.jpeg.21920739c0aad6eda834bb7cc7261ea0.jpeg
