Russian aviation is interesting, considering its roots in the USSR, known fondly in the good ole bad ole days as "Commie bastards".

Russia is visa free free for South Africans, keen to visit sometime, maybe catch a Soyuz launch.

Problem is you might end up flying on an Antonov at some point, and they've got this annoying habit of falling out of the sky. Yesterday was another case in point.

Soyuz still flying, after all these year,

Maybe their space program has better quality control than the rest of their programs?

I have(had, he retired on Monday) a work colleague that is also big into it. He flies routes on sim in real time a week or so before actually doing it for real. He is Welsh and goes to see his Mom every year so he literally took off from JNB and 11 odd hours later land at LHR, I kid you not. He has also "flown" every aircraft he has worked on. Funny thing is, we were on a full time type course together about 2 years back and part of our sim training includes flying(in case we ever on board and have to sort an issue) so we usually do the training and then do some flying for fun. I managed to take off and land a A330-300 safely and he managed to kill us all on landing. Must have been beginners luck for me.

At the risk of upsetting some folks, I struggle to grasp how these peeps do this crap for real. Honestly, I do the real actual flights and peeps do it on a sim.........goodness how *** your life must be to do a real time transatlantic flight on a sim.........seriously!! As long as you sit in a dark cupboard to make it more real!!

Okay, so I can’t say certain words, bloody hell, what has the world come to, realy K.A.K is not included......eikona wena!

With you there Spokey. although not current I've found Flight Sim to be nothing like the real thing in terms of feeling and sensation of flying, whats its value to avaitors is for training and type familiarisation to some extent.

I've still got the DOS version on my bookshelf here, back in the day it was a good test as to how compatible your compatible PC was LOL

Kosmonooit, I guess there is a value in fixed base IF flying for peeps that are training toward that end, but simply to be an “enthusiast” and set up a 10 or 12 hour (or longer ) flight and sit through it.........eeeiisshhhhh! The mind Boogles with a capitol B! I do this for a living....buggar it can be boring.........however boring is good ha ha!

Had a spur of the moment visit to a local air museum. I was without a real camera, but took some mobile pics. I could have spent hours there...although I probably would have begged to go rummaging through all the old interesting bits (random drop tanks, wings, engines all stored at the back of the property).

A box of internet smarties, hell - make that two boxes-  to anyone who correctly ID's them all.

Yep - there were exhibits that were really unexpected- such as the DH Sea Vixen (not Bronco), as that was never widely used, and certainly not by Australia Apart from that you had a perfect strike rate.

The others were a P2 Neptune, the split flaps of a Canberra, and the interior of a DHC-4 Caribou.

The F111 is an impressive aircraft - much larger than I would have thought, and to think it was capable of  Mach 2.5.

I'm with you on that one. I play many games on my PlayStation but for like an hour or 2 every now and then and that's enough. The oke I mentioned is a bit "different". At 62 he got drunk with a friend at a 70th party, came home h0r#y, went onto a pron site, signed up with cc details. The process at work the next to try cancel this subscription/card without his wife finding out was hilarious. The phone conversation with the lady at the bank was gold. Trying to explain to a young lady the reason why a 62yo man wants to cancel a cc without sounding blunt had the rest of us on the floor laughing.
