The PC-12s in the far background were the key.

BTW, they have just stopped production of the PC-6, after a mere 60 year production run. Personally I think they did that to divert all of their time and effort into their PC-24 bizjet, which they can't make fast enough. I think they have temporarily closed their order book for that model for the second time whilst manufacturing tries to keep up.

But look at the timberwork in that factory - handrails and trusses. Awesome! Should be cross-posted on the woodwork thread. The Boeing factory might be bigger but this one looks far more polished.

Like a Swiss watch or Swiss chocolate.

The Pilatus maintenance hangar where we send our PC 7 and PC 12‘s for maintenance has wooden floors as well....it’s located at the main factory Edited by SwissVan

I think I need to go on holiday there and do a tour of the Pilatus factory. Sounds amazing.

It’s actually a small facility when you look at it from the outside. I’ve only been to the engine shop (they have a PT6 overhaul capability) and the maintenance hangar. Those pictures I posted from a friends FB page

If they can identify the behavior, yes.

In the Lion Air a faulty Attitude Indicator was blamed for trigger the system that pushes the nose down but from what I am hearing the final report has yet to come out, laying out the exact sequence and causes and concluding that disaster.

Maybe there is some hitherto unknown set of circumstances that causes the flight computer to loose the plot and fly the aircraft into the ground at high speed.  But ultimately its not actually the computer doing this, it the people who develop this system and who often over estimate their knowledge of the world and life.

In this age of increasing automation, this is a risk, and an increasing likely scenario. AI - I wont even go there.

I am thinking more and more that this is the case.  That they do not have a clear answer on what caused the Lion Air crash.  The fact that CNN reported several incidents that are currently on investigation in the US supports this theory.  The aircraft is pretty much grounded in several parts of the world with no exact reason other than uncertainty.

I noticed the wood as well - it adds a really nice aesthetic to what could quite easily be a clinical metallic operation.

I heard on news Boeing has grounded all 737 MAX planes. Apparently the satelite images of the flight pattern of the Ethiopian crash was the same as the Lion Air one...

And we thought you had an "in" at the factory, we were just about to butter you up for an invite!

What they are saying now is that with increased resolution from sat data the profile of the vertical speed is close to that of the Lion Air flight, suggesting  commonality.

Seattle, we have a problem.

Trump!!! Grounded it

hahaha. he didn't have a choice it would seem, after both Canada and the UK closed their airspaces to the aircraft.

Spin doctors working overtime to get the wording of the various and recent missives from trump, the FAA and Boeing, sound woke..

FAA - new evidence collected at the site and analyzed today ( that's gibberish for satellite tracking data that NASA made available from day 1. To EVERYONE. Also, since when does at-site evidence get turned into proof in less than a day?)

BOE - abundance of caution (where was the abundance after the Lion Air crash, and the 11 reports by American pilots of similarly distressing in-flight behavior?)

Yes, I'm being somewhat reductive given the complexity of investigation, but I think the FAA is bent toward industry instead of safety

I know there are many "horrible" ways to die in life, but stuck in a plane that is dropping like a stone is pretty high up on my list.

Personally, I prefer the 'great ball of fire' way over most alternatives.

Well there was talk of industry paying for services during the recent US govt. shutdown (see link).....

I personally think that peer pressure got to them (rightfully or wrongfully), they were willing to risk it if everyone else was, but when they were suddenly the last agency letting them fly the situation probably became untenable. And I am pretty sure the lawyers had the last say, not the engineers. Disclaimer:- the above is just me joining the dots in my worldview - results may vary.

Short term lease rates for either B737 NG (the previous generation) or the A320 family jets must have climbed through the roof over the last few days to cover the shortfall.
