Maybe  the PC version (if it comes) will be your best bet then - one always needs a better laptop.

Meh. Fingers crossed there will be a PS version.

[edit] Short summary - XBOX is becoming the MS gaming environment, even though this game is coming to PC first. It will be opened for console (XBOX) later due to coding capabilities. Azure AI will be heavy on bandwidth, but there are early indications that the map AI will be loaded in the cloud and streamed, or else there will be files of around 200 Gig having to be downloaded to run the maps and ground textures. Time will tell.

JustPlanes just posted this clip of a Fluffy (737-200)  aprroach and landing into Alaska - stunning!

FlightSim - ja regret to say I go back to the DOS version and green CRT screens, it was useful when I was learning to fly, to practice procedures, like spin recovery. You could actually get its Cessna sim into a spin: stall and then a kick of the rudder if I remember correctly.

I got every subsequent version and have FSX on my home theater PC and occasionally load it, but its does not really give you the thrill of the controls, although this new version seems to have take the graphics to the next level.

I am not looking forward to that. I think the Sydney- JHB  route must be one of their most profitable, I have done 4 return trips on that and it is either full, or 95% full. With losing close to 30% of the seating capacity from the 747s, that flight would always be full, and there will be less chance of booking flights on days you want or for ticket specials to occur.

I had kind of hoped they would try an A380, but no such luck.

I imagine those pax were suitably dressed for disembarking. I made the mistake of failing to consider local conditions when I left SA in summer and landed in Denver in winter, in short sleeves and my jackets in checked luggage.

The newer passenger aircraft have so much more electrics already. So on the "older" aircraft, airbus 340 for eg the hydraulic system was made up of 3 separate systems running different components. So if one hydraulic pump failed you still had a lot of other components running. The newer aircraft have an electric motor running each component. They save on all that hydraulic fluid, so as a whole it is lighter. If one motor fails it is just that one component that fails and not a few. With hydraulics comes valves and pressure switches and and and. So for this application, I am all for electric. But electric motor for propulsion is a no from me. I still drive a 4.0L V6 petrol bakkie, I rev my engine when I pass a prius. I am not a fan of quite engines.

Yes the later generations like the 350 and 787 have extensive electrics in place of hydraulics, that tech is already here and mature but electric propulsion .. the motors are here (instant torque, little or no maintenance, no noise), the problem is energy storage, ie batteries.

I am also thinking regen - like being able to recycle energy when dropping levels, instead of air brakes, and even wheel brakes.
