Milosh Posted January 15, 2019 Share Hi Guys Looking at riding Breedts nek this coming weekend , and looking for info on condition particularly the far side down to the farm stall. BTW - The stall was closed on visit to mountain sanctuary on 13/01/2019 , Locked up and benches also gone so looks long term.
Mikeridgwell Posted January 15, 2019 Share Hi Milosh I'm wondering if Breedtsnek was ever in great condition?! Haven't ridden it in a few months, but its a pretty robust road. Far side of summer rains though, so I'd watch out for sudden wash-away's. Milosh
dave303e Posted January 15, 2019 Share We drove over it on the 5th, it is bad but not unrideable, we went over in a 2x4 ranger fairly easily, that being said there has been big rain since then.. Milosh

Mikeridgwell Posted January 22, 2019 Share Probably boring as hell, as always... Do you ride the area often? I did Magalies Monster in 2018, and would like to know how much of those tracks are accessible? I might tackle Breedsnek, and then head along the tar road towards ATKV Buffelspoort and try find the single-track that runs along that road? I have ridden Breedt's a couple of times, and done the monster twice. Off of Breedt's Nek road, to the left and right, is private property. There are some signs up indicating as such(not brand spanking new, but they are there.)On the one side is Mountain sanctuary park, and on the opposite side is privately owned camping grounds and nature reserve. I would not advise doing the single tracks as this is on private property. There are some farmers in the general area that are not too happy with trespassing, even "by accident" There have been incidents where guns were pulled, and shots fired. You may also jeopardize future events, and land accessibility.
twin rings Posted March 3, 2019 Share are there any safety/security issues on Breedts? if I recall correctly a few years back there were a reports of drivers been aggressive to the riders and a couple of bikejacking incidents...
RocknRolla Posted March 3, 2019 Share Keep left, pass right. As with the rest of the roads in SA, general courtesy and adherence to the rules go a long way. Never felt unsafe, except that time the trailrunners was passing me going up the back of the climb, thought the celestial bike gods will descend upon me to revoke my bicycle, and me calling myself a cyclist. Breedt's is pretty much undriveable, so you don't see many people once you're on the climb. That being said, it's a lot busier than you would think. I've done Breedt's in mid-winter, and drizzle, and have always had fellow cyclists meet along the way. I come from the farm stall side, and come down into Hekpoort - I think Hekpoort is definitely the busier of the two, but also more built up. coppi Posted March 4, 2019 Share It think its busier in winter, when I ride it..............the summer rain creates havoc and makes some sections difficult, especially the climb and descent Edited March 4, 2019 by coppi
