anyone can play guitar (even me).

getting good at it, that requires talent (which I don't have) and practice (which i don't do enough of).

all you need is four chords and the truth

(C,G,F Am)

Well then... here's a challenge.... I'll even be kind.. and take a chord away...

the 3 chord challenge

That being said, teaching new fingers to Barre a fret properly is an art form on its own. Nothing is more annoying than a dead string because your finger isn't pressing hard enough

The trick with Barre chords is not to press down hard, but to get equal pressure along your barring finger. If you start applying to much pressure your hand will cramp up like crazy after a few minutes.

You took what I meant and put it in better words, naturally pressing too hard won't work, was more referring to the right amount of pressure per string.

I was on ucord last night practicing my hand movements, and trying to get my unwilling fingers to move in all the directions to get the cords. Up come this weird ass F. Im like what on earth is this, thats not F. WTF. Wife comes in, "O are you learning bar cords?"......

Felt a bit stupid. did not even think about that....

Get a decent setup done.JD Kustom is my go to

It will make all the difference

Oh...and some decent strings

Agree, I got my Gibson setup just after I bought it by JD. The difference in playability was massive.

I was fortunate enough to attend a couple of Dans guitar workshops in Clarens. Superb guitarist an musician and he understands the business. If you guys ever get the chance to go I recommend them. It’s cool just to hang out with fellow guitarists an drink beer, learn a little an you even play a mini gig.

As to Dan. When I see him these days he still recognised me so a genuine ou an his band are are superbly talented too

Rocksmith going good so far. Great fun, would have been better if I had a monster sound system connected to the TV...

I did not touch my guitar the weekend but will tonight.

I am spending some time on theory that Rocksmith do not offer.

And the most difficult thing for me, is keeping the beat/rhythm.

And probably the most important. If you can play one note in time you are useful to other the rest of the band.

Theory helps but doesn’t make you a great guitar player. I also found theory is easier to learn on piano.

Music theory is cool to know. It makes understanding music so much easier anyou can start pre empting where the music will go. I have profound respect for musos that you give a page of music to an they play it spot on immediately. That is a skill. Probably not found amongst rock stars though.
