What do you look for in a bike shop?

I have no problem paying full/market price from friendly, polite and knowledgeable shops. I have used shops in the past that always made a plan on the price but service was bad, repairs were bad and advice was bad.

If your staff are arrogant and up their own a** like many of the shops these days I won't drop a dime in the store, even if the price is good.

Oh yes and they must know how to use that telephone thing that people talk about...

What I want are the shoes I ordered in November 2018. Some Giro shoes so google the supplier here in s.a. The LBS said the supplier will bring them in on the last shipment for 2018. It's Feb 2019 and now no one knows Jack. I was asked this morning if I still want them.....if so it will be another month. WTF.... Some advice to LBS's and suppliers/importers/distributors if this is service then don't bitch and moan and cry when your business goes belly up. The man on the street can now shop online and ship within 7 to 10 days to his door. Why wait 3 to 4 months for k@k service

Just picked up my shoes .... was ordered some 4 months back.  "should have" been here early November already.

That said, certainly NOT the "shop's" fault when deliveries run late.

One that does not tell you that you need to replace parts that they replaced less than 2 months previously, at high cost...and give you a blank stare when you point out their flawed logic...

Or try upsell you to things you don't want, or need.

I just want a LBS who gives a damn about me as a customer, and who wants to help, without pulling the damn dam out from under the duck's arse everytime.

In this age of enlightenment thanks to google and youtube, I would appreciate it if a LBS expects that I have in fact done some homework before gracing them with my presence, instead of treating me like a nincompoop.

When did coffee become such a massive thing?

It definitely wasn't a pre-requisite to being a good (insert a non related store here) a few years ago.

Has everyone been Jaegermeistered and Bird Boxed into believing that the consumption of coffee is good, caffeine is the answer to unposed questions and without it you simply can't enjoy life?

The coffee revolution is a bit ridiculous...

this guy's fault

Looking at your mail reminds me of my experience at my LBS.

1.After respraying my bike a few months ago I took it to my LBS to put everything together, and since I bought new derailleurs and new brakes I though lets get a new BB along with new handlebar tape and cables.

When I went to fetch the bike they told me they did not replace the BB as there was nothing wrong with it.

2. Had a problem with my bike the last two weeks again making a noise and having eliminated all issues I could think off , though I need to replace the BB as this is the only thing that is left.

At the bike shop they checked it , showed me there is no need re-greased the BB , checked saddle , trued the wheel checked, checked the pedals headset etc, and set they could not really find an issue here is the bike. No cost.

I am not yet sure if the sound is gone but received much more than expected.

Shout out to Hot Spot cycles.

not waiting 2-3 days for a reply if i want to spend 80k on a bike

Funny story that. It seems to be a thing in Cape Town, and not just bikes.

I've had a sales rep at Spesh in Durbanville not sell me a Stumpy 6-fattie when all I wanted was a Camber...I relented, and tuned the guy to send me the paper work so I could pay him. It's been 3 years since. I am still waiting. I was planning to spend 40k. He convinced me to spend 56k...

I got the Camber in the end, but not from Spesh in Durbanville. I don't even look their way when driving past.

I hear you on the delivery issue, something we have to always consider being in S.A and haveing a wonderful postal system. But this cock up is between the LBS and the supplier. One of them did not order the damn stuff. Needless to say I ain't going back there again

A little bonus, which I really appreciate at my local shop in Melkbos, is that they collect your bike for service and drop it off again after. Thats the extra mile. Riaan & Rikus at Melkbos Cycles
