Who's to blame?

So how do you reconcile "be lekker" with "That's what I replied to my mate, told him the cyclist deserves everything he got and more"?

Not trying to be a jerk or anything but the "macho talk" is a part of the problem in SA - maybe if we universally condemned violence on the road there would be less violence.

If the cyclist and driver was “lekker” the video would have showed a bakkie type thing passing a cyclist nothing to see there so move on.

But both weren’t lekker, cyclist jabbed bakkies mirror off driver lost it and the result driver takes out cyclist. The cyclist’s actions AND the drivers actions weren’t right.

So I hope both parties learnt from this.

But who's to blame? The driver's only a criminal because the riders a chop...

The drivers actions could main or kill the cyclist, and should be treated as such by the law.

Pretty sure the "Malicious damage to property" makes the rider a criminal as well...

The cyclists actions are as per your post, and he should be treated as such by the law.

wow ..... just wow .... hoping you were intending to use the comic sans font here, but forgot to add it!

Good for that driver....a few Cycle Labbies need that treatment.

Cyclist is to blame but will anything happen to the cyclist?? Not sure...

The driver of the bakkie type thing will most probaly face the full might of the law for delibratelty taking out the cyclist.

Is my Friday slow, yes... I'm thinking about what I can have for lunch now.

If you completed your profile, I could maybe suggest a nice place for lunch if it was local to me, but instead you're here  on this thread, having fun :(

If you're cycling today, may vigilance keep you safe, its a war out on the road!

To me they both contributed to the altercation

but the vehicle driver did start the process.

He stopped too close to the bike at the lights

and then proceeded to edge closer and closer to the bike.

Notice the distance given between the other cars in the video.

It is obvious that the driver held no regard for the cyclist in front.

It appears he must have been about a foot away from the bike before they set off.

So not only did he stop too close but he then proceeds to follow

extremely closely. I'm sure by now the cyclist is angered by the

aggressive style of the driver behind.

Cyclists are more aware of their lives being at risk than vehicle drivers do.

This can lead to a quick loss of composure when an incompetent driver

starts acting irrationally.

At this point the cyclist then loses the plot and instead of quickly giving way

(wise thing to do as by now he knows the driver is incompetent) he still remains partly in the way and takes a swing at the side mirror.

As cyclists don't have number plates and reporting the incident would probably

not be possible...the fore-mentioned irrational driver  decided to take immediate

restorative justice and bounce him off the road.

It could be argued that the driver gently nudged him onto a nice grassy patch

but I'm unsure if a judge would see it that way.

Moral of the story: As a cyclist we always come off worse...so it serves us well

to as far as possible, keep out of the way of vehicles coz you never now when

some crazy loon is willing to TAKE YOU OUT!

Interesting... Are you one of the people that complains about life being so cheap in SA?

Perhaps the real person to blame is the riders' common-sense-abiding mate.

Educate your stupid friend otherwise you will be riding alone tomorrow (and very nearly was)

One of 2 things are true here - either 1. You're trolling or 2. You really drive an orange bmw and the rest speaks for itself

Two wrongs don't make a right, both broke Rule number 1, but TOYOTA driver ( ) had a complete brainfart...

On a side note, who else added the "Jou ma se p..." audio as the driver swerved?!

Does the cyclist deserve his PK that he got?

Should the driver of the little bakkie type thing give the cyclist another kilometer or two to move out of the way before swerving into him?

Should the bakkie driver have ignored the fact that cyclist guy elbowed his mirror (and how easily did that mirror break) and carried on driving?

I reckon that they had previous interactions and were winding each other up before making their appearance on this camera. This was just the finale.

He clearly hasn't watched the Gillette advert yet...

Fo shizzle.

Sometimes I understand why women shake their heads at men. Two guys had a problem, instead of acting like reasonable adults they throw toys and react. Now one has a scratched up body and bike and the other has to explain to his boss why his vehicle is missing 1 x wing mirror.

Words can never hurt me but punches and switching you off the road hurts like hell!
