Would you have said the same if Nic held on for the win... or if Louis had surged ahead at the last climb... or if Ryan caught up and won the sprint? ..or anybody else?

Does any of those mentioned have a suspicious doping past?

They are pro-cyclists, aren't they?

Joking/not joking :)

In today's times I am very sceptical of sports that don't have any doping transgressions, because people are predictable in that someone in that sport WILL try to get an advantage by any means.

Course suited Daryl. Short Power climbs with opportunity for recovery on the course. Would've thought Reinie and Gibbs would've been able to work together to get back to him. His attack on TJ was so proper, and with his recent form on Willunga he showed them whose boss. Like Ashleigh yesterday. Only his attack was against half a dozen Protour riders. Question about DDs SA riders is how prepared for Sa's were they.Gibbs would've been my pick. Super chuffed for Daryl, who showed his class as a world class allrounder

If that race finished on a 15km Cat 1 or HC climb Louise wouldn’t of dissapinted you.

Course was suited better for Impey and Gibbons

Roll back a few years to the year LM was SA Champ, on a circuit with rolling hills (Westville). Yeah, DI had a mechanical before the finish, but LM was there, so it means he could ride a rolling hill course.

The difference now is that DI has probably stepped up a few more gears compared to LM, who hasn’t. It’s a pity, as I believe LM has what takes to be a great rider.

But, I agree that this was a punchy course compared to the Durban circuit.

The 2013 worlds had a similar circuit. A 600m 16% climb close to the end. That suited LM and he earned silver. When I saw him on the final climb of Tom Jenkins today I thought he would go with Impey, but he was just nowhere.

No fast twitch....? Or is it where he is in training? Did he see himself as potential champion? I wonder... His main goal surely still a good Grand Tour gc. When he was younger he seemed to have a better "kick"

I think I am going t buy myself a Scott bike. One Scott is faster than seven BMC's. So then I must be faster/stronger as well. (and you don't need disc brakes to win races)

‘Sprinters that can climb’

Can see that Impey is at his best form ever.

So many matches.

Being the first ever to consecutively take the GC crown at a very competitive TDU has boosted his self-belief big time.

Not really a sprinter in its true form when comparing to Kittel, Kristoff and the likes. Also not really a climb, its basically a roller in a classic type event.

So yes, really fast in a straight line on medium mountain stages.

All rounder is a better word i think?

I thought the commentator was ok. He did say that the guys would struggle to do 10km/h on the 8.4% climb which was amusing!

Ja that climb is not 8.4%, they probably calculated the avg by including a drag before the climb actually starts.  When you hit the concrete, you're going over 20% in a lot of places and it only drops slightly on the second half, but nowhere near as low as 8%

For sure, but then is LM meant to be peaking for this event or simply a helper and his season is based on being in form for Giro / Tour or Vuelta?

There a good few variable to be put into place here on why he seemed to of been a disappointment to all.

Ryan and Darryl had TDU as 1st goal of the season and of importance - their training was built around this and they carried that to SA champs. Its showed and was evident.

Just saying that the public need to stop being so critical of LM when there can be other things in place here as to a performance result.

My 2c.

Do you think LM performed to expectations at the GTs last year?

Saw that phrase in a VeloNews article.

Yes. All-rounder.

Or puncher.

I’m thinking Sagan, Gilbert, Kawasaki, even Costa.
