Hi guys

Interested to hear what spare you carry on a normal ride (anything above 30km).  Really want to cut down on the unnecessary extras.  Currently riding with all these

Spare tube

Topeak multi-tool with tyre levers and chain tool

16g + 25g CO2 cannisters

Topeak mini pump

Power link

Valve tool

CO2 inflator

Tube patch

Tyre boot (Sidewall cuts)

Ryder slug plug

Am I the only carry this much?

I only carry a small pouch with co2 igniter, multi tool with chain breaker, link and plugs with a plug tool. I have done a lot of endurance rides the last 2 years (160km + ) rides. No spare tube. I do however top up sealant regularly and and always make sure tires is in a good condition. My rides consists of gravel roads and rocky jeep tracks typically of the Overberg.

Why carry co2 canisters if you're carrying a pump?

If you get a flat and the tyre gets of the bead of the rim 9 out of 10 times you won't be able to seat the tyre on the rim again with a minipump, therefore the co2 canisters.

If you are lucky enough to get multiple flats your average 2x co2 canisters carried with might not be able to get you home, hence the minipump.

Alternatively you could carry nothing like a weight weenie and bum spares along the way but I personally hate asking anyone for help.

That looks about right Zorro, my spares are much the same and I have most of the scattered all over the bike and in a mini saddle bag from Farr components. Only the spare tube goes in the middle back pocket of my shirt, use to have it taped to my seatpost until I got a dropper. b9b9bb9d2ace2ee1dbdcc6aad23d9f31.jpg12fc0df025456874b46de3cf1e930e82.jpg

Just realized now I don't have a spare link in there anymore.

Plug and a bomb.

Anything worse that that happens, phone for a lift home.

Some of the places where I go riding there is often no cellphone signal and some of these places don't really have access for vehicles, except maybe a helicopter. This has left me with a 4-5km hike-a-bike more than once in the past.

MTB I'll normally have the following:

  • 1 x 25g CO2 Canister
  • CO2 Inflator
  • Spare Tube
  • Quick Link
  • Tiny Set of Hex Keys
  • Tyre Leavers

I should probably ditch the tyre leavers and tube for a plug kit.

Road will usually be:

  • Mini Pump
  • Spare Tube
  • Self Adhesive Patches
  • Quick Link
  • Tyre Leavers

For MTB:

  • Spare tube
  • 2x 25g CO2 cannisters
  • CO2 inflator
  • Plug kit
  • Tyre levers
  • Tyre boot
  • Multi-tool with chain breaker
  • Quick link
  • Quick-link pliers
  • Leatherman
  • Spare valve
  • Gear cable
  • Bunch of cable ties
  • If I'm riding somewhere remote I'll add a small tube of sealant and some spokes as well.

All goes in a tool pouch in my Camelbak. I've only every used the multi-tool and the leatherman on a ride and the plug kit once I've got home and found a big thorn still in the tyre.

I carry a bit less on the road bike:

  • 2x spare tubes
  • 2x 16g CO2 cannisters
  • CO2 inflator
  • Tyre levers
  • Tyre boot
  • Multi-tool
  • Chain breaker
  • Quick link

Used the spare tubes (and associated tube replacement bits) a few times because my old back tyre (Mavic Yksion Pro Powerlink) was made of cheese (3 punctures in about 800km).

On my commute to work just a pump.

On the trail, i i use my bag, then its a pump, patches, tubeless repair and ,mutlitool, otherwise no items when the bag gets left behind.

What I carry:

2x 16g cannistors

1x valve adaptor

What I recommend:

The above + 1x extra water bottle as hydration is crucial.
