dbotha Posted February 16, 2019 Share Hi Guys!! I would love to hear some opinions. Recently, in the last 2 months or so, my left knee has been a little sore on and off the bike (Off the bike as in after rides) . Its not at all a sharp or bad pain, its literally just a noticeable type of ache. Its also not a ache where i need to stop riding or anything like that, its just notice and usually the slight ache disappears around after 6/7km of riding and there after i wont feel it for the rest of the ride and ill only feel it again after when sitting or lying down. But again, its not very sore, its just noticeable. I have upped my riding amount and i do know that that could have an effect in the knees, but i find it strange as its only the left knee. I also do know it could be a range of other factors but I'd maybe see if anyone else has experienced the same? Any ideas or recommendations would be awesome! Thanks!! Vetseun Posted February 16, 2019 Share It shows that something is wrong friend. I would, if I were you, check your cleats. Are they set up correctly?I think it would be a good idea to start with set up. Should that not resolve your issue, you may need to seek medical advice.Good luck..Hope you sort it out easy . Sllab Posted February 16, 2019 Share You may want to check your setup, as Vetseun says. If your saddle is too far forwards, and your knee is too far forward, it can cause some pain. Cleat position affects this, as per Vetseun. Do some researcba about your setup. Also, try to keep your cadence above 80 and your loads light until it clears. 'Dale Posted February 16, 2019 Share I’d recommend a professional bike fitment. If these issues persist, it can lead to other issues if not more serious injury. Sterkte. ????????♀️ Flatdog7, MrJacques and Geronimo

Johan_Kleynhans Posted February 16, 2019 Share Heavy gears? Position on the bike. When I upped training considerably I also felt my one knee. Was like a tooth ache. Very long story short. After trying everything else a physio suggested an ice massage evry night as you jumped into bed. I did that for a long time but it cured the problem and allowed me to train and did very high mileage in the process.
Robbie Stewart Posted February 16, 2019 Share I am noticing the same. Also left knee. Also increased mileage. I did get new shoes around 5 months ago. Today post-ride the knee felt stiff and not in the mood for me crouching when trying to reach down. I am going to follow Vetseun's advice.

pk007za Posted February 17, 2019 Share add crank length as a possible cause - dropping from 175mm to 170mm sorted out my knee issues. Edited February 17, 2019 by pk007za Geronimo
dbotha Posted February 17, 2019 Share So you guys would recommend going for a fitment? I am running short bars with a negative stem, think this could be an issue?
pk007za Posted February 17, 2019 Share go for a fitment, but decribe your issue and what kind of setup you want - an XC/Marathon style fitment is not so great for the rest of us looking for comfort.
Johan_Kleynhans Posted February 17, 2019 Share Apart from comfortable positions it is always crucial to have your leg/knee/cranck/BB position sorted out first. Then you can sort out the handlebar/saddle relationship in my opinion for aero or comfort.
Vetseun Posted February 17, 2019 Share So you guys would recommend going for a fitment? I am running short bars with a negative stem, think this could be an issue?A decent set up will determine that. It will be money well spent. Cycling is hard. We deserve to be comfortable on our bikes. Jako De Wet
WaynejG Posted February 17, 2019 Share My lateral pain in my knee on longer rides was cleat position. I eventually gave up trying to adjust them and just got decent flat pedals. Problem solved. Edited February 17, 2019 by WaynejG
