I had mine done in 2008, under local anesthetic. I got a call from the doctor's rooms around 90mins before I had to be there, I was told this would happen. Wheeled into theatre on time and was home around 2hrs after the procedure.

Apart from some discomfort for a few days afterwards, it was pretty easy. I even managed a business trip down to Durban two or three days afterwards, only difference was that I needed an automatic rental car for this particular trip!

Done

Very easy, med aid covered everything so i could probably have done it in Aug anyway.

Uncomfortable but not painful...yet

Got a crap ton of meds which hopefully won't all get used

But you so young?

when I went to doc he advised me not to and I was like 32 at the time. Thankfully I did not have it done cos had another kid after. Best thing I ever did.

Talked long with the doc ( he didn't try to discourage me but just life in general )

I've got a disease which is a death sentence ( no matter how nice you try to dress it up ) and transferring it to a kid isn't something I could live with.

I know the chances are remote but they're not impossible.

I'm also working hard to give my family a better life and the dire financial situation the world is in doesn't even help me to think how I could achieve that let alone look after a kid.

If I did ever have a kid I would definitely want to give them better than I had and I'm barely able to look after myself properly.

I could always adopt if my situation changes and the doc said reversal chances are much better than generally discussed. but 10 years is the cutoff according to him( 50/50)

Very mature way to look at things, bit cynical too. But we adults, we make decisions and live them.
