Ikon rear - Forecaster front?

I ran Ardent front & Crossmark rear (will never change the Crossmark) - the Ardent has a transition in the corner where it slips and then grips again, not a Lekka feeling could never get used to it.

Now i run IKON front at 1.6 - 1.7 bar, huge difference in the cornering. I'm 90 kg

Toads, you ride Rekon race front and back?

No Icon Back... Forkaster front..

But this week I have put the recon race on the back and kept the forecaster on the front. so far I've had one ride and it feels faster ... also also harsher ...

Problem I have with all this race slick tires is they don't dampen any of the trail vibration. and I often wonder if you run say a more trail tire if you will not be better off and less fatigued at the end of a stage day.

I'm pretty sure you would be less fatigued. Maybe try the Slaughter / Minion SS out for a race day tyre?

EDIT: An XC tyre with larger volume would be the best alternative. More vibration damping due t higher volume & lower pressure, still low RR.

I tried the slaughter for a few months, but the 2.3 version. But I think my rims are to wide i29mm

the tread flattened out too much and ended up riding on the shoulder knobs in straight line sections so were really slow, so went to more rounded tread designs. I think on a narrower rim they would be perfect.  Want to give the Rock Razor a try in the 2.35

My next experiment will be a RR back and HD front... SpeedGrip series - but that will have to wait sometime. I am a self confessed tire whore and have to many I need to use up before I can spend on any more. I also don't spend enough time on a setup before I move onto something else... Think I had one ride on my 2.6 NN before I went back to my 2.35 HD and MM.  I need more time to ride

you on a niner? If so, yeah the 2.3 is a very different tyre to the 2.6 in terms of compliance etc.

RR is a good choice, but i preferred the Slaughter slightly to be honest.

Nope because the rolling resistance is much much lower and that is going to fatigue you more than lower order vibrations. How hard is your suspension set up abyway? The feedback you're getting is the trail talking to you, no filter.

you'll save some more energy if you wear Assos white bibs rather than those Noddy pants you love so much

I don't do spandex ...

And you never substitute speed for looks..... EVER

Suspension is set up fine 30% sag, 2 click LSC 8 clicks HSC  7 LSR. 7HSR.. its the skinny thin tires that don't dampen the trail feedback.

Why on earth would you want to dampen the trail feedback?!

That's the best part of the ride. The symbiotic relationship of man and trail. Man says I'm pushing harder, trail responds #### you and you come back with ah ha I see what you did there

Rather go for Ardent up front. I have Forekaster on the front and they are not very grippy on dry loose terrain, it's more of an (Cape Town) winter tire.

What he said ^^

...I run an Ikon at the back and Ardent up front...you can take your bike anywhere. Only downside is mud...with the Ikon you will be struggling for traction at the back in muddy conditions.

I've had a WTB Nineline on the rear and played with the WTB Trailboss and WTB Wolverine upfront. I have also tried out the Ikon, Recon Race and Ardent Race setup, and have found, for my style and type of riding (Hermanus) - I am really enjoying the Recon Race at the back and the WTB Wolverine up front. Grip for days and pretty minimal rolling resistance. FWIT?

Love the wolverine as a rear tyre. Front... Meh. But if you're looking for a tyre that's fast rolling, high volume and you're on hardpack or gravel grinding then it's a great choice. Would also be a great tyre for xco imo.

Yup. Horrible tyres. Grip for 2km then they're worn out and no longer grip at all.

Are you referring to the Ibex? I'm beginning to think that one cannot take your tyre advice seriously at all....

????

I just really didn't get along with it, and neither have other people who's opinions I trust. But there are others who have vastly different experiences with them and love em to bits. I know it's really sensitive to pressure, but I found the citius (and Mary, can't leave her out) to have far superior grip characteristics in all conditions.

But. And here's the thing. I know you're a far better rider and faster than me so maybe you're able to ride it at the level it needs to be ridden at to come into its own.

.....so what you're saying is that the XC tyre  is better for going fast, up hill or down and over very technical terrain in races.... like XCO....

Yet for stage races a trail tyre is better..........where the terrain is less technical and the average power output of the rider is lower......interesting
