How many people here have friends around to their house for a braai, watch them drink and then bid them "safe home"?

I was made out to be an asshole once cause I didn't want to let a friend drive home drunk, I was told to go and calm down cause I wouldn't let go of my friends keys cause he insisted he was "fine"

Anyway I didn't speak much to him after that and we've drifted far far far apart. I see him occasionally but that's about it.

It's not the easiest job to get someone who's been drinking to admit that they are not "ok" to drive home.

^^^^^ This I dont understand.

They know WTF this scum sucking coward is, it should not be difficult then to track him down and arrest him.

Its to late to get him on drunk driving, but they can still nail him for culpable homicide and fleeing the scene, and evading the police.

I read an article over the weekend of a policeman getting shot, and his murderer being apprehended shortly thereafter. I cannot recall the details, but remember thinking it was no problem for them to find this murderer, who killed one of their own, but this asshole who killed Andrew is being left to his own devices, despite the police knowing exactly who he is.

Mr. Cele, you are a disgrace to the uniform, sir, for allowing such ineptitude in our country under your watch. Shame on you!

I had some words with my dad about this ... had a buddy over, got him properly drunk, then let him ride a superbike home ...

Few years later a buddy came over for a braai to our house ... he polished his bottle of red wine very quickly, long night ahead .... I gave him the keys to my cellar, on one condition - he had to hand over his keys.  We had a LEKKA braai !  After which I drove them home.  We had many more lekker times !  Being responsible does not mean the end of your friendships, at least it should not ...

Try him for the corrupt attention he gave the fishing laws.

This bloke is beyond reasonable doubt and I agree wholeheartedly with you Robbie.

He is a disgrace to the nation.

Cannot do his job when it is open and closed like this.

Disgusting.

May justice be done and what is right be done.  I am livid at all these piss cats getting off ALL of time due to incompetency!

Someone needs to find the Investigating Officer and get the areshole down to the court to apply for a J50 warrant of arrest. He should then also get his SAPS 55 circulation notice.

Our group of friends have embraced Uber in a BIG way over the past few years. Not that there are any big drinkers, but it is just so convenient and takes away the stress about worrying whether you are a speck over or a speck under which is not so easy to be sure of. Also, now there is no longer someone sitting out as the designated driver. I have to admit that it was initiated by the younger generation who they dragged us (slightly) older lot into the brave new world! Good thing!

Look how fk'd this car is and then veers off in an arm-cor barrier, this idiot must have been overwhelmingly over the limit and to leave his injured passengers behind nevermind injured cyclists and well a deceased one :(. Fk this useless imbecile and the facebook comments are really astounding, everyone forgets that whether a motorist or a cyclist we are all wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, sons, uncles, HUMANS ffs - Absolutely disgusted in this. May Andrews family find some sort of peace and comfort in this absolute trying time. Good Lord what a sad case, one of many unfortunately :(   RIP Andrew #feelingangered

Look how straight that road is, no ways he was surprised by them.

(This is a timeous example of drink driving in SA, apols its not to do with the thread title)

Granted this quote is from possibly my worst news reporter - News24, but I still check in every now and then.

A drunk driver who narrowly missed a head-on collision with City of Cape Town auxiliary law enforcement officers was not in good spirits when he was arrested after being found with a drink, complete with a couple of ice blocks, in his car’s cupholder, authorities said on Monday.

A clever play on words but it goes to show how we continue to subtly reinforce the joke of drunk driving in SA.

Absolutely mate - wow, everytime i leave home i leave my wifey and two boys and i solo out and just pray for my safety. God or no God i pray to something. This is heart breaking, a son and daughter in a rather challenging time in their lives being teenagers needing their mom and dad to guide them just before they go out and make name for themselves. Aaah i feel sad right now.

I see on Facebook that one of the cyclists involved in the incident clearly states that he was drunk. There were no words minced in his post.

Please can you post the link, maybe they will be interested in helping put pressure on the police.
