glitter Posted May 1, 2019 Share Saw recently a topic on apple vs garmin just to make people awarebought my daughter an apple watch for Christmas. by pure accident she drops it and screen smashed/cracked.off to iStore and guess what...they send back and replace with a refurbished one (so i could end up with an old refurburbished model) yet hers is a few months old.or a get a price to replace and no one will say how much, so a new watch priceno one in SA repairs (or does anyone know who i can send to as watch is now a throw away!!!)so which do you go for Garmin is easiest decision ever no one before hand says if you crack screen your apple watch is then pretty much a throw away BE AWARE Pure Savage and nonky
tinmug Posted May 1, 2019 Share Funny, I had the sort of experience with Garmin (South Africa) that makes me look elsewhere for GPS devices. Happens, I suppose. The Apple refurb will look brand new, and will be at least the same model. In the camera business refurbished (pro) lenses are often better than new because the tiniest aspect of the lens is checked (on production-line units only the odd is closely inspected). Why wouldn't you opt for the Apple refurbished unit? On damage that has nothing to do with them, no less ... BigDL

tinmug Posted May 1, 2019 Share It depends on what the warranty stipulates... It's not going to cover Clumsy-Me-Dropped-My-Apple-iThing. So getting a refurb is a pretty good deal I'd imagine ... Abercrombie and slickjay007

Its plausible that they could have a free screen replacement warranty, like some phone manufacturers But I agree with you. Not a bad deal

The refurb watch is as good as a new one and should have the same backup. Apple refurb is as good as new nonky

Skylark Posted May 1, 2019 Share totally hear all comments, but R7k to replace a glass just seems extremeIs that what they charged or did you have apple care? Depending on the device Apple often has a policy of swop out for refurbished unit and do not offer repair of just the broken part. Apparently the replacement of the glass or screen on the apple watch is very difficult and expensive, costs close to the replacement value of a new watch. But yeah these smartwatches are just another pita that can potentially burn a huge hole in your pocket if broken. Nevermind the battery that will be klaar in a few years and good luck getting that replaced because the screen needs to come off to get access to it... nonky
Be4dawn Posted July 26, 2019 Share Hey guys, I remember reading somewhere on the hub that someone ordered his own screen for an apple watch and replaced it himself? Does anyone perhaps know or remember who he was? I have an series 2 watch that needs a screen replacement that I would like to try fix myself and give to a family member. If you don't have the tools or experience I wouldn't even contemplate doing it. BigDL
Albatross Posted July 31, 2019 Share I've replaced the screen on an apple watch. I ordered the part from aliexpress which came with all the tools you need. Watch a few videos on youtube for the tips & tricks. My daughter has been using the watch for over a year now. duanelr and BigDL

They replied its not fixable as they dont even open it up at the tech shop. There is nothing the tech shop could have done that the store couldnt, yet they charge you R250 for it. Scam. nonky
NicholasT Posted July 31, 2019 Share Have you spoken to WeFix? They replaced the screen on my iPad4 a while ago, it was far cheaper than apple quoted and although I’ve upgraded a few times since then, the iPad4 is still running strong as far as the screen is concerned. https://wefix.co.za/repair/apple-repairs/applewatch nonky, Frosty and slickjay007
