Momsen str . Help needed

Sjoe... I'm busy converting my V1 STR frame (which was a nice SS gathering dust) to a nice gravel tourer as that seems to be what me and my mates are doing more of these days. Overnight bikepacking tours with 100ish km gravel days. Definitely seems to be something that is gaining popularity, but there are not many options for steel gravel frames locally.

 

I have been riding an alloy Specialized Tri-Cross which I picked up in the UK but it was hard as a goat's knee on anything but a super-smooth surface. Looking forward to the compliance that I know the STR will give me, but would like the option of being able to pick up a slightly lighter, more gravel specific steel frame. In an XL!

 

Just looking for a carbon rigid fork to finish my build, then I'll post a pic.

I am 1.78m tall and find the large with a 60mm stem is just large enough ... at 1.96m I would say you are too tall.

Yup. I’m 197 and a large str/f would be too small for sure.

Same here, perfect with 50mm stem.

At 196 the sizing chart on the website puts you solidly on XL.

Would anyone here consider swopping their 135mm dropouts for the new 142mm dropouts? From what I could find on the web these should be standard Tange/IRD dropous and should be interchangeable.

 

I am seriously considering this frame but I need the 135mm to run the Rohloff.

Do Rohloff not offer a spacer kit for the hub to go up to 142mm?

I saw that they do have axle kits now but its also an exercise in weighing up the costs.

With the axel at least you are future proofing the wheels should you elect to buy another frame again.
