Ok it makes more sense to me now. So the 2019 CTCT is the new base event (beta = 1) and all results are measured against this. Given that the 2019 CTC was a comparatively tough event is why everyones index values have increased

Exactly, but if everyone's index values increased proportionately it makes no difference as it's purely about your value relative to the next guy.

Edit:

Sort of a "if all children are special, none of them are" kind of reasoning  :D

Yes, that is why they also had to change the the group limits/borders (otherwise it would have been very lonely in A for some.. )

ah, so pedalpower got the seeding vibes!

I did the metric tonner.

they adjusted the winning time from 2:47 to

to 2:27 and beta is 1.05

seems odd to have two variables to play with, but if one shifts the offset and the other fattiness of the bell curve it makes sense.

They review the base beta every year. Surprised they used the 2019 CTCT

ja, it was quite windy wasn't it?

so far I have:

A 0-15

B 15-20

C 20-25

D 25-29

E 29-34

Any how, I probably belong in F somewhere, so E will do fine for me.  I wonder why they decided to change the limits of the groups instead of just reverting to the old winning times and betas of the other races.

according to my new seeding, F = 38-40..so that doesn't add up....

Every year, as we head into the Spring cycling season, we make some changes to the seeding calculation, making the Cycle Tour the base event against which all other results are measured. With this year’s Cycle Tour having been exceptionally windy, the index increased (Note: “Index” measures how far you finished behind the Cycle Tour winner and we apply this differential to all your event results after the Cycle Tour).

The net result of everyone having higher indexes is that we have needed to adjust the cut-offs for each seeded group.  At the same time, we've taken the opportunity to look at group sizes at events and have reworked the cut-offs to provide fewer but roughly equal-sized groups.  There are now only 10 seeded groups for the road with the last being K. This will only be effective as of the next PPA event which is the Sportive #8 held on the 1st of December.

We will be doing the same for MTB early next week.
