Biggest attraction for me was that I could ride to the start. Thanks for the 4 wonderful One Tonners, but I'm not doing this one. Actually after my first (2013) it took me 3 years before I attempted it again

It was fun while it lasted but it seems Stellenbosch has become very unfriendly to hosting cycle events (Medallion, Die Burger/Stellenbosch Cycle Challenge and now One Tonner).

Not just Stellenbosch. Cycle tour faces the same challenges every year wrt to road closure and routing through fish hoek and simons Town.

stellenbosch one would think as a sporting town would embrace cycle events but it appears not.

I remember speaking to one of the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour organisers when it was still held in December. On the same weekend of the event there were 2 or 3 other events/festivals in the Sbosch area as well as one near Franschoek - all of them drawing people into the area that will spend money but without the traffic disruptions caused by a road cycle event. The municipality was not at all desperate for the potential money that could be generated by the race, would rather see them move out of town which is exactly what eventually happened.

Sorry Rouxenator, seems that you would have to move towns if you ever want to do a road event again.
