What saddles are the big boys riding??

Just going to weight is a bit hit and miss.

Are you a tall muscular 95kg or a shoter squatter 95kg?

Your build makes a difference because your saddle discomfort may not be due to the saddle but rather overall bike set up.

Is that more or less appropriate for you ?

and then after that the saddle shape and width becomes important.

then decide high much padding you need. Some people like the padding in the bibs, others like it in the saddle...

How many hours do you ride for?

Do you prefer trail riding where standing out of the saddle is more important or marathon where being seated is more important?

Is your bibs or baggies not the issue? (e.g.  i cannot wear Pearl Izumi Bibs, they kill me on any saddle.)

All of this...

It's my understanding and firm belief that a properly fitted saddle is imperative (actually, ALL contact points). A Clydesdale with narrow sit bones needs a narrow saddle. A wraith-like racing snake with wider sit bones needs a wider saddle.

Dropping cash for a bike fit was the best money I've spent on biking.

I ride a 155 Spez Power Comp on my Trance, and a 155 short nose FARR on my gravel grinder.

I like them both but I haven't ridden the FARR far enough yet to see how it compares to the Spez, but overall it feels the same.  If you swapped the saddles around the bikes without me knowing about it I probably would not know the difference.

Have a Fizik Arione on my Scott. Never knew better. Did many thousand km with it.

When I upped my mileage I was chaffing. Just thought it was normal.

The Giant has a Giant Contend Forward saddle on it. It took a while to get the butt used to having pressure on different parts of it. But no chaffing and I can feel the pressure is on the sit bones vs the soft tissue of the Fizik.

I still need to do more than 2 hours with it, but so far so good.

I weigh 100kg and have different saddles on different bikes .I stick to the same shape thou .Success with WTB silverado ,Spez phenom,Fabric recently and Bontrager .I know a lot of heavier riders use WTB silverado .Just something i noticed .If you are a high torque rider and stand a lot ,saddle issues are less .I have never had saddle problems before .I bought a sella italia once .After 3 rides it was still uncomfortable and i got rid of it

Hi Guys, unfortunately our 155 WIDE saddle is sold out in Black, we do still have the " BIG BOY BLUE " available.

we have just finished off our 2020 range of saddles, quite a few new options available from Late October onwards - including more WIDE options - with and without the CUT-OUT.

attached a sneak preview of the W-CO ( Wide Cut-Out ). pricing will be similar to the current range. ( R/$ dependent )

I have gone through so many saddles. Bike fit recommended a couple of Spaz saddles and some other brands and after spending thousands, because nobody has test saddles anymore (because people never return things).

I was so g@tvol of not being able to find 1 and being told what I should buy next.

So needing to get a couple of training rides in for K2C, I stripped my m@#r went to the closet bike shop and bought the cheapest saddle a RYDER(NOT the power saddle copy) and it worked great!

I'm +-98kg and love my HT did the K2C and about 3000 km since then without any problems very comfortably.

Thanks for the reply.... which Ryder did you go for?

Thanks for all the input especially the findings from personal experience. I must say that a bike fit is something I must look at as I've never done one. Also, I don't think my sit-bone measurements were very accurate so I'll get another reading. Maybe this will go a long way to resolve my comfort issues. If it doesn't, I guess I'll keep looking for "the one".

Thanks!

from a big fella ...down to a not so big (but still big) fella...bike fit...saddles ...a$$ cream ...bibs...more saddle experiments...more bib experiments...it still hurts.

for me...the most significant pain relief over time...and boy have I tried a few things...the stronger my legs got the more comfortable the ride got in every respect...it sounds silly but when i think back to when i was sitting "heavy" on the saddle not only because of my weight but also because of my weak legs...as i got stronger in my legs i started to lean forward more and spent less time "resting" on the saddle...which resulted in less chaffing ...less numbness in the crack...overall... less pain.

My mtb has the standard anthem saddle...tried others but went back to the orginal and found it to be the most comfortable.

my one road bike has a saddle with a gap in the middle and the other doesnt ...i find the wider one with the gap is more comfortable on longer rides....but then again ...i tend to "rest" more on longer rides....more rubbing...more numbness...more weight on the sit bones...if the saddle is too narrow for you...it just means more rubbing and numbness on the crack instead of the sit bone.

Funny everyone saying that getting the fitment done worked wonders. I trust that it did, but when i had mine done i was recommended the narrow 127mm seat, and it was only till i got a syncros xr 143mm seat that everything felt so much better. Its not very padded at all but the shape seems to work just fine for me. Someone else mentioned a fabric scoop - i would absolutely give that a go. Most comfortable seat ive ever been on, also the wider version. But as has also been mentioned, noone can tell you what seat to get as everyone is different.

I swopped out my Specialized Toupe for a Ryder on my road bike and have never looked back. Best saddle I've ever had.

I was given some cheap jack saddle which sat in my garage for years. When my Scott saddle broke on my MTB, I put it on as a temporary measure. Super comfy from the word go. I wish I'd used it sooner.
