Just some ideas....

Hey, I don't want to start something here (and it's not nearly Friday) but the last time I looked SA's crime capital was right by the Plat Berg.

Eh this is a difficult thread to read... first time in ten years I haven't entered (yet).  Had to bail last minute last year as the opportunity for work suddenly popped up. Still waiting to see what's-what for this year but the training hasn't been happening. If I'm lucky, it may become a really last minute LSD training ride!

A couple of years ago my youngsters moaned and groaned because we "never go anywhere dad" because I work every 2nd Christmas and New Year. So, I told them to zip it, people come from all over the world to visit Cape Town that time of year. They Googled and found Cape Town on just about every top 10 list of places to visit in the southern hemisphere. So, they organized us a "holiday from home" and it was bloody fantastic. Just like tourists. We rode the Red Bus and saw bits of Cape Town we didn't even know about, learnt things we never knew and had great fun. We climbed up Platteklip Gorge and rode the Cable Car down, visited Kirstenbosch, Boulders and Cape Point, went to the Heart Museum at Groote Schuur and a whole bunch of other stuff. We paddled Simons Town, with the penguins, Green Point with the dolphins and took the car over Chapmans Peak (usually we do it on the bike). It took about a year to get through their list and they never again complained about staying at home after that.

Bits in red I would not mind doing myself. Shot for the great ideas.

Do what every single Vaalie (and other out of towners) do in the Mother City...hike Lions Head (but do it at sunrise or sunset, weather permitting - it's amazing)! And Kirstenbosch!

you missed the part about them being 4 and 9 years old

Boulders Beach. On a nice day a bit of a splash on one of the smaller beaches right next to the main penguin colony is always good for the kids. The beach is safe, no big waves or drop offs and nicely sheltered. You will often see the penguins anyway, but if not, it is just a short walk to the main colony. But do pay your entrance fee, you don't want an arm broken in front of the kids. ;)  ;)

Have not been for a while so stand open to correction but for me Fishermans and even Seaforth are nicer beaches for a nice frolic in the waves for the kiddies and you can walk down to Boulders for the proverbial  penguin perve

How do you get on the beach without paying Sanparks?

Park at Seaforth restaurant side instead of Boulders then just walk down the little road towards Boulders and you'll find the walkway.

You okes need to come to Muizenberg.... It's way cooler than Fish Hoek!!!

(Neighboring Bay Rivalry......)

Muizenberg has really turned itself around beautifully.

Or along the rocks and little coves from Seaforth.

That is where we have been staying since my Dad did his first Argus in 1989. We have probably crossed paths at some stage!!!!

We bought a beach house in 94 in Scarborough and that's where holidays and Argus's were spent from then on

It still has a few issues but we are working hard at the moment to get those sorted.

I live and work in Muizenberg and the only time my car leaves the garage is to go surfing in the reserve/Noordhoek or to drive to Stellenbosch to ride bikes. Maybe once or twice to go to the shops a month.....

As a family we couldn't be happier.
