Mate in UK had his 3 bikes stolen out of his shed over the weekend.

He already spotted one on gumtree but that ad disappeared.

Interestingly cops weren't interested in getting info on seller from gumtree, he had to try get it himself.

Then also, he phoned today to sort out insurance and it was approved just about immediately and he's getting about £1500 more than he paid for the three bikes combined.

Nothing else was taken from the shed.

Bike theft is a huge problem in Europe and UK.I keep my bikes locked to the wall with a chain in the garage.Insurances usually pay out what it would sell for on the second hand market.

My brother had 2 bikes nicked when he was in London. Always joked to him that we never had anything stolen in ZA!

Thought I was in some parallel universe last week ....

GMBN had a full episode on LOCKING your bikes in the garage !!

and we know people leaving SA due to the "crime" ....

Eiisshhh - not had any issues here, although a lot of my team have had bikes stolen. I park in a secure bike storage at a gym near work during the day. Facial recognition camera for access to the storage room and CCTV etc inside. Even so, for insurance purposes I have to lock the bike to a fixed point in the storage room with an approved lock.

At home, bikes are stored inside the house (sort of). My neighbours both leave their high end bikes in unlocked sheds with access from the street and have had no problems ever. Probably helps that we live across the road from a military base and the entrances to our yards are covered by CCTV and regular armed patrols. Leave the keys in the car overnight sometimes as well.

Happened to my boss. In terms of crimes in the UK breaking in to ashed is a minor crime and isnt seen as breaking and entering. So its pretty much going unprosecuted. Seems like the criminals know this. They wont break in to a house...
