How short are you?

Yeah, this would be my only concern.

The bike itself is perfectly fine, and for the NEW price not bad at all. As others have mentioned, you probably would be able to get something better second hand, but for a new bike, that was more than reasonable.

The fact that the saddle is that low is way more concerning than the price or the quality of bike.

I've seen many beginners buy a bike. It gets set up for them perfectly and when they ride the bike for the first time, they expect to sit on the saddle and touch the floor with their feet. They then lower the height of the seat.

I hope that this is not the reason for the low seat. You'll hurt your knees.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for the feedback and help. I feel much better about my purchase. I'm 162 cm. Some of you even did your own research. Very helpful! Much appreciated. Will focus on enjoying my bike.

I know this is the advice often given to newbies on here on entry level bikes, but the way I see it to get a good deal on a secondhand bike you need to have a bit of knowledge, patience & do proper research to spot the good deals between the overpriced bikes & clunkers in the classifieds. Often a pretty intimidating exercise for someone new to the sport. I would say rather opt for new when going entry level.

At 162 the frame they sold you might be a medium, as most said, seat looks very low, and thats not a good thing, maybe a small frame would have worked better.

I 100% agree with you. If you want to buy a bike and ride, then go to a reputable bike shop and get one off the floor. I was also a total newbie 5 years ago and didn't know the difference between a 26'er and a 29'er, but I took my time to do my research, and really got an awesome deal on a second hand bike.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it might be worth it to some.

My first mtb back in 2012 when I started riding again was 'n cheap red Specialized bike.  Can't remember the model.  I bought it new for around 5k.

How I hated that bike, urrrghh!

Not saying all cheap bikes are bad, my next bike was a cheap Merida, loved that one.

Any bike shop selling a medium frame to someone who is 1.62 should be burnt to the ground.

It looks like a small anyway

Hi, I've just bought a Silverback Splash 2 from Cycle Lab Fourways for R6900. I do not know anything about bikes. However, I am worried as I don't believe the sales person was very knowledgeable and might have steered me wrong. Firstly, I was told that this was the latest model but I cannot find the bike online. The latest one on Silverback is silver and mine is turquoise. I have searched tons of sites to find my bike and haven't as yet.

I want to ride on the road and also a bit off road but do not want to spend more than R7000. I want something that I do not have to replace in the next five years or more.

1. Was this a good buy?

2. How do I verify that it is the latest model?

3. Which other brands should I look into?

4. Where is the best place to purchase a bike in Johannesburg? That is well priced, has expert staff and good service. I am based in Fourways.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Bought my son a silverback for about 5k in 2013. He is still riding it and it goes everywhere that my giant anthem dies with no drama

Why is that? Is that not about right? I am 193 cm and normally go XL

Different bike manufactures will have different geometry. My Fuji is marked M/L but is slightly bigger than my Silverback which is an XL. This is also a women's specific bike so that has to be considered as well.

Hi everyone, just an update on this.

I received feedback from Silverback directly and my bike is actually one of the latest ones. so I am super happy and apologise for my assumption that the sales person might not have be knowledgeable. I'm really enjoying it! thank you all again for your help!
