I have two daughters, and this scares me to death.

As she said, it is not confined to one sport or any specific sector of society, it is prevalent in all of society.

All I know is that I will end the life of anyone, man or woman,  who abuses my daughter in this manner. You ruin someone's life, I will ruin yours, that you can be sure of. This isn't a warning, it is a promise.

The thing that I see missing from the chorus of metoo voices is how to train children to identify abusive situations and how to respond to them.

Very true. Too many times the minor gets stuck in a situation where they feel that they will get into trouble if they raise the alarm.

In the case study mentioned where the issue was raised from a 16/17 year old and the team said that they have talked to the staff member and all is resolved. Whereas when a senior athlete raised the same issue regarding the same team member, then suddenly the team took it seriously and acted upon it.

So the issue was raised by the girl but nothing was done about it and afterwards they expected her to share a house with this team member, possibly setting her up for more of the same. So her actions to raise the issue gave her no solution.

We have a long way to go as a society...

My kids started sex-ed classes when they were 9 at school. There they are taught to identify what is wrong for adults to do to kids. They are also taught who to report it to.For many sex is a total taboo to talk about and shameful.

Theres been quite a few women speak out about the abuse they've been through on cycling teams in Holland and Belgium. Some has been a comment and some has been physical abuse.

It is a sentiment I wholeheartedly share being a daddy of a daughter myself.

I find it eerily scary how accurate you voiced my precise opinion on this matter. It's almost as though you read my mind.

I even use "This isn't a warning, it is a promise." when warning people to not hurt my daughter.

I am sure most dads feel that way, me included. But unfortunately life rarely works out like this. And even if you get the opportunity to fulfill your promise and exact your revenge, the damage is already done. If people like us threatening violence were a solution this problem would have been solved ages ago.

I am not necessarily thinking physically destroying someone, but rather something along the lines of exhausting the legal system and also possibly something along the lines of what that reporter did in unmasking the sex pest teacher that also worked at media houses.

There needs to be repercussions for these perpetrators that would also be seen by potential perpetrators for them to reconsider their actions before committing them.

If there are no repercussions, these type of transgressions will just perpetuate and flourish.

I will not be able to undo something that happened, but it might just reduce the risk of it happening again to someone else.

Listen to the Podcast "My Only Story". It's frightening just how f*&ked up our society has become.

our society has always been F$#$#ed up, its only now that woman have a voice that its recognised to be not ok and cant just be swept under the carpet

unfortunately though it has also given a voice to snowflakes that get offended by the tiniest little thing.
