Honestly that's still cheap if you ask me and from what I can see bike looks clean and paint still look nice.

I paid R6000 for a budget new road bike, Avalanche something. I wish hadn't.

 

Buying something like this even for R4000 is better than going the budget route in my opinion.

The Trek 1000 is a budget bike. It was their bottom of the range way back when.

 

Probably on par with your Avalanche.

This bike is 20 odd years old. That doesn't mean that it is a bad buy. Value wise, I would say R1000 to R1500 max.

 

The bike looks pretty big, you sure it's your size.

I've owned the 1000, 1200 and 2300.

 

The 1000 is a heavy bike, and R3k is a bit steep. Check the BB and headset bearings carefully if you do go look.
