Seatpost Suspension

Good evening Hubbers!

Now that I have a bit more time before R2TS, it seems I can put a bit more money away for some gravel goodies!

Who owns seatpost suspension? From the research I've done, there are two on the market at the moment -

What's the opinion out there?

I think there could be a market for a suspension dropper post. It cant be too difficult make this work...

I have been using one for a few years, it is a cheap Aliexpress one.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000664865842.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.31676dd4xoHCfJ&algo_pvid=3a2832f7-2dc6-4a29-82fd-e8f20f4dcb8a&algo_expid=3a2832f7-2dc6-4a29-82fd-e8f20f4dcb8a-3&btsid=0ab6d70515845084447258898e425e&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

It works very well and has about 4 to 5 cm of travel. It is different to the links you posted in that it goes directly up and down, no forward or back motion. It is easy to service, the basic design is a very stiff spring inside the seatpost shaft.

the first time i saw a dropper work i thought  "why is it not just suspension with a type of lockout too?"

but that would mean the bike industry would have to give you something that does more than one thing and is not proprietary in its function....and that would mean they would be loosing out of selling you something else (read new and improved and premium) for the other/second function lol

Both my reverbs got like that before they needed a service.

It isn't nice.

You beat me to it.

Thudbuster or the bendy carbon posts (there are a few) are your best option - they keep the distance to the pedals constant so you don't end up with fit issues. Telescoping posts are fine for commuting, but for proper riding you'll most likely end up with injuries.

Nice, Thudbuster looks like a pretty solid product. Definitely on the short list, not that the list is very long  :whistling:  :whistling:  :whistling:

the research i have done into this (and then never acted on) was that you either go for the thudbuster/suntour or you get a setback* seatpost.

this is probably a bit outdated now, but this was pretty extensive at the time

the one interesting option i was hoping on some longterm test on, but doesn't seem to have come through

but this does look nice

I remember reading that test and concluded that the Thudbuster had been set up poorly, utilising a firm elastomer and high preload. If set up correctly there is no way a solid post will feel more comfortable......no way

The Cane Creek eeSilk is looking like the best at the moment. Same price as the RedShift. Still expensive, gulp!
