Best value for money MTB

Hi,

I’m looking to buy a mountain bike soon, my budget is R10000- R15000. I’ve read a few posts on here about the Titan roque sport and the silverback slade comp.

Also the Trek stache 5 but I can’t seem to find that anywhere.

Any suggestions please I’m new to mountain biking, only a road cyclist for now.

A popular response from many Hubbers will be to check the second hand market and get a better spec’d bike. You’ll get a better quality fork and group set. A risk would be finding one that hasn’t been abused (requiring new components like BB, drivetrain, etc.).

Thanks for the suggestions, I would ride a medium sized bike 19 I think it is.

I don't want to get ripped off on the secondhand market so I'm not quite sure where to start looking?

I'm not quite sure where to start looking?

The search function here on the Hub is a perfect place to start. Every question you may have has been asked and answered over the years.

Spend some time reading and understanding, and you will soon be able to make informed choices.

Would it be better to find something that has been used which could be worn out or something a little less specd but at least I know its new so nothing will break. I  haven't exactly found any bargains on here for a decent specd used hardtail.

Could the hubbers on here help me out and tell me which is more important on a mtb, a fork or the groupset, the bikes I'm looking at either have a good fork or good groupset or a dropper post.

I'm new to mtb riding so I wouldn't know where to start.

I'm also not sure how much travel I will need?

The bikes that have been recommended to me are:

silverback sladee comp

Titan drone elite

Merida big nine

That merida has some decent spec, Very Good tyres, 12 speed. Fork seems nice. (Just remember that 12spd maintenance is much more expensive).Cluster and chain will cost you.

Dropper post is only being used when you go downhill. So you maybe use one when riding in western cape or where there is serious downhills.

Spiderman, looking at your two links, the merida is lighter, allot actually, more of a racer, the silverback, as you can see, has a slacker head angle, more fun in trails, downhills, more relaxed ride i would say.

Both are really cool, it all depends on what kind of riding you will be doing. That x fusion dropper on the slade is tit, very good. Its a tough choice. Hope this helps.
