Interesting one. 1x12 setup

Bike was built and setup by Specialized but after about 200km it developed a small shifting issue. Popped it in the stand and discovered that it will get stuck at the top two gears and only shift down if nudged by hand.

Shifter is 100%

Cable is friction free.

Seems like a common problem from my search on the Google machine.

Diy fix or should the dealer sort this out under warranty. Don’t want to be stuck with the bike for too long.

Let them fix...they should have known about this common problem.

The dealer needs to get it sorted - They probably havn't fine tuned the B screw setting, both the NX & GX have a specific way of fine tuning the setup if this is not done you will have lots of shifting problems

It's likely the derailleur pulley cage bolt that is too tight and causing the cage to jam at the extreme articulation against the spring tension. If you're a competent mechanic you should be able to remove the cage yourself, grease the shaft and spring and loctite the thread before reinstalling.

alternatively, get SCS  to send it back to the SRAM distributor for warranty repair or replacement.

This you do when you out of warranty period. I would also insist that they demonstrate how to fix because its not like an uncommon problem.

According to the tech the problem is a batch of derailleurs with returns springs that aren’t strong enough. This causes the stuck issue and general shifting issues.

Only shitty part is the two weeks turnaround time to RMA

seems this problem creeps in from time to time. Happened to earlier batches of XX1 derailleurs as well but they would still shift, The problem manifested itself when the derailleur was down in the 14, and 12t sprockets because by then the springs weakness would be apparent.

If its a weak spring manifesting at the 51t sprocket then you should also have shifting problems from the 16 to 14, 14 to 12 and 12 to 11.

Either way I'm glad they're sorting it out for you.

It started developing problems low down over the weekend so it went up on the stand. That’s when I picked up the 51t issue.

We enquired about the possibility of upgrading to the GX and pay in the difference.

The NX derailleur is weak, change to something better. On my Mrs bike after less than one year, the NX derailleur was tired and had to be removed.

From personal experience this will save you a lot of trouble - 2 NX derailleurs broken in 8 months (they both just disintegrated on corrugated roads), 8 months now on a GX with zero issues.

Think the jump in price between NX and GX is much smaller than the jump in quality

And when I bemoaned the down specking of the Levo from GX to NX they (Spez) was adament that there are "no issues", and the unit works perfectly ....

No ways I was spending that type of money for entry level components ....

PS .... sadly many manufacturers are now selling expensive bikes with these crappy setups ... :(

Paying in to upgrade to GX but from a few google searches it seems like GX is just made of fancier cheese?

Hope it’s not the case but we will put away a little money every month to buy Shimano when this goes belly up.
