I have a Colnago V2-R which is a stunning machine. However it has developed a very annoying ticking sound. the bike has been checked over extensively by 2 reputable bike shops. Both times the bike came back silent, but the noise appeared again after a few rides. No one has been able to say definitively what the source of the noise is. All bearings, headset, BB, cranks bolts, etc. have been checked.

I am looking for a recommendation for a mechanic that can get to the bottom of the issue once and for all. I am based in the southern suburbs, Cape Town.

Thanks

Is it when you pedal?

My first instinct is it is a cable end brushing something (crank arm etc) when it rotates OR, very commonly, it is a pedal that needs servicing.

Pedals don't click in the shop or on the stand as they don't get tested under load.

But ja.... Neville Cragg at Bike Mob would be my recommendation if you want someone to triple check

The strange thing is that you can definitely hear it when you pedal, and occasionally while I am coasting, so it seems to rule out the BB area. Not the cable ends but could be a pedal issue, will ty swap them out and see if that helps.

Neville was the last guy to work on the bike and it was silent when it came back, took about 3 weeks before the noise reappeared. I will probably take it back to him.

Thanks for the input.

Tick while coasting or pedalling?

Does the tick go away when you stand up?

mostly pedalling, occasionally while coating.

Havent noticed if it is still there standing, I guess that would eliminate the saddle and seat post. will check it out.

Thanks

I had an annoying tick which I eventually traced to my seatpost too ...

Hope you find yours ...

Some other things to check.

Change wheels, see if it happens. Had a similar problem on my son's bike,  turned out to be free hub bearings wrecked. Was pretty bad and nobody noticed. Also when the bike is stationary push down hard on the frame with your weight in various places and listen for noises. If you can hear something there is a crack somewhere.

Mostl likely the ticking is coming from the BB. The V2-R uses a Colnago proprietary Sleeve that is bonded into the frame and the T45 cups are then threaded in.

The bonded in sleeve can loosen or the bond cracks which gives rise to a clicking creaking sound.

I believe the sleeve can be removed and rebonded but not sure if this requires a carbon repair specialist or if a knowledgable mechanic can sort it. Try John O Connor Cycles or BikeMob as they are the two shops most likely to deal with high end Italian frames

That was the initial diagnosis, the cups have been removed, checked, refitted according to Colnago specs. New BB bearings also fitted. I have been assured that everything is in spec in relation to the BB and cups.

check your rear skewer also. If it was this it would be when pedalling only though.

what he said

clean, grease and replace making sure the skewer is closed correctly (not too loose)

Time for a new bike then :w00t: , you have tried everything.

On a serious note, just grease the skewers and make sure they are tight. I had a similar issue, changed BB's and looked at everything else but it was just the skewer and the position it was in when closed.

You sure the crank arm isn't hitting brushing up against the front derailleur cable end cap?
