This thread can be used for a wider purpose, but I will start things off:

I want to buy a kids Bike from someone in Bloemfontein, but I am in Pta.

The size is roughly 100cm x 60cm x 20cm, weight 12kg.

According to the Postnet Website, this will be too large for the standard Domestic courier service.

Any advice on the most efficient way to get the bicycle to me?

I used The Courier Guy 10-odd days ago, full size racing back from JHBTO CT, around R360, in a free LBS-sourced used cardboard shipping box.

3rd day delivery, since o/nite is silly money.

Cheers

Chris

I'm just busy with this exercise. Have contacted Triptych and done Courier Guy. They all work on dimensions on box, not so much weight (if under 15kg's).

CG is R660.10 for a normal bike size box (140x80x30). Door to door.

Triptych quoted me R560.

So not too sure how and why +-R350 get bandied about (also on other threads)?? Am I missing something??

Shipped a frame, fork, wheels, and some some bits in a standard size bike box from CT to JHB. R370 shipping with road economy. Took two days to get here with Courier Guy.

The insurance however ripped me a new one. R90k worth added about R1200 to the R370.

Did you do the insurance with Courier Guy?

Because they don't cover 2nd goods and they won't explicitly tell you that but they'll take your money, you need to go dig in their T&C's to find that info.

If something happened and you tried to claim their insurer would repudiate the claim.

Seems the only way to have in transit insurance is under your own insurance policy.

It was brand new goods with an invoice to prove value and all that.

I won’t cover second hand goods with courier insurance. I use them for my business and our goods are always insured.

I'd point to the consumer protection act and get a mate to sue them on a pro boner basis.
